Interesting - she is on 2000IU Vit D a day. Would she be better off stopping the 1 calcium tablet and just taking magnesium (and if so how much?). Or keep on taking the calcium but add in magnesium?

She was late 50s when diagnosed but had symptoms for approx a year before colonoscopy with biopsy, then another 2 years after colonoscopy before anyone bothered reading her pathology report to see they had written CC.

Looks like I spoke too soon - although things were a little improved in December (during/after my visit there & when restarting the Vit D) - however it was short lived and the relapse has been back since a couple of weeks after that.

My mum is still on 2 Entocort & 2000iu Vit D daily but ...

Just wanted to report back to let you know the stopping Vit D was the problem - a week or so after restarting (this time on 2000 IU instead of 1000) all is back to how it has been for the past couple of years (not 100% well, but D mostly under control) :grin:

Vit D wise, i have taken 2000-8000 iu ...

I know the GI suggested 2000 ui per day based on the blood test, but she said 2 x 1000 tablets made her feel funny (not sure in what way) so she cut it down to 1 x 1000.

I've suggested she restart onto 2. Probably a good idea to get it checked at ...

Thanks Gabes :) I did know Vit D production drops with age but didn't realise the other reasons.

I don't think either of us had really realised that her Vit D deficiency was linked to the CC so closely. I'll mention the lingual option to her next time we talk.

I think you've hit the nail on the head - I just spoke to my mum and asked if she was still taking the Vit D tablets - no, she stopped about a month ago as it was coming into Springtime here & getting sunnier.

She is going to restart them (has been on 1 x 1000 IU tablet for about 2 years continuous ...

Thanks Cory, could I ask why you stop taking it rather than staying on a low dose all the time? (side effects etc?)

Tex, I know the more recent slides would've been better but the 2 more recent ones were done in her home state and when I asked the pathology lab if they still had the slides in ...

Most of us really don't have a choice. If we don't change our diet, we continue to react, despite taking meds.

If I'm reading correctly, I'd take this to mean that for many people on this board, the meds only work a little to ...

Good news on the ME front - I managed to talk the GP into writing the pathology request :) I could see him trying to weasel out of it, so ended up telling him the pathology lab had told me the request needed to come from his practice as they had referred her for the colonoscopy in 2007.

Quite a significant difference (3.84 to 1.04). I wonder what the avg % loss was - they mention both groups (free & dependant) in both meds had about the same loss but dont give the figure.

Also like Deanna I wonder what sort of duration/dose of (eg) pred and how long ago ...
