Does anyone else find it more than a little incredible that the most-prescribed categories of drugs would be those that have been shown to be some of the least effective types of drugs, and coincidentally, those with the most side effects, (and some of the most dangerous side effects). The most-prescribed drugs are those that lower cholesterol and fight depression.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
In a crazy way, it makes sense, since the prescribing patterns are so much about what's being marketed to doctors and patients, and so little about results.
And you really have to market mightily when your products aren't worth much. (Starting with convincing people that these particular health issues *require* medication.)
I don't suppose that will change fast, but this seems like a nudge.
I think keep myself from going on full rant, Tex, thanks to your fine post

And...the drugs to treat depression could be a link to CC, I understand. (In treating my 30 years of migraines, I've taken Elavil (for pain control, but an anti-depressant), as well as tons of Motrin 800mg tablets. It's all connected!

Pat,
Good point. Not only that, but the statins are also linked with MC.
That means that virtually all of the drugs that doctors prescribe/promote the most, are known to cause MC for some individuals. Is it any wonder that MC is becoming somewhat of an epidemic in slow motion?
