Accutane and LC

Post by trialanderror »

Accutane has been linked to digestive diseases like Chron's disease (at least by the trial lawyers). I took 2 courses of accutane as a teenager, and now have lymphocytic colitis.

LC is an inflammatory bowel disease, so if Crohn's or UC are a risk, then surely MC would be, also. Since the "theory" has never been proven by medical research, most of those cases are probably being "settled", rather than won, aren't they? Your odds would probably depend on the skills of your attorney. He or she would have to convince the judge that MC is an IBD. Since most doctors don't even realize that MC is a true inflammatory bowel disease, most attorneys would be even less likely to understand the disease, so you might have your work cut out for you, just to try to find an attorney to represent your case. Still, the call is free, (as they say).

Incidentally, I have a niece in the same situation, but she doesn't seem to have any interest in pursuing a suit. She's just glad that the diet allowed her to get her life back.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Not really interested in pursuing a suit -- just trying to figure out the cause...

Kemah,

How old are you if you don't mind asking? I am 41 and took Accutane over 20 years ago, so tough to make a link.

I took accutane when I was in high school. I am now 38 and was diagnosed with LC about three or four years ago. It has been very difficult, however I am doing decent most days now. Mostly eating rice, beef, turkey, and safe fruits. Lots of rice Chex. I need to buy stock in that company. Always wondered if accutane was a cause....ever since I started it in high school it seemed that certain foods would always set me off.
