A Side Effect Of The Drought

Post by tex »

Hi All,

Droughts cause all sorts of problems, of course, and they dramatically distort normal ecological events. One of the things that I've really noticed this summer is that hummingbird feeders are being emptied at record rates. Of course, not many plants can support a normal bloom in this kind of constant heat and low humidity. Even gardens and yards that are watered, don't produce enough to talk about.

If hummingbirds kept records, they would surely record this year as one of the toughest of the century.

Love,
Tex

Tex,
I was just thinking of you and all who live in Texas after watching the Sunday night news. It doesn't look good and no relief in the immediate future. They said Texans are praying for a hurricane this year to end the drought.

Let's all do a little rain dance to see if we can get some rain down there.

Tex - We got a smidgen of rain this afternoon, but the ground is so dry it soaked it up in seconds. We are supposed to get some rain this week. Maybe some of it will come your way.

Hugs,
Denise

We had nothing but a few drops here - interesting observation about the hummers, Tex. It's very concerning, hope there's a break in the weather *other* than a hurricane.

Great observation Tex. We are seeing more Hummers this year in our area since everything is so very dry. We got 20 minutes of rain on Saturday and it didn't dent a thing. Another thing I am seeing more of this year are bees and wasps in our area.

Love, Maggie
