GF menu with actual options!

Post by jme22 »

I just discovered this restaurant in the DC area and am anxious to give it a try. Although I will have to ask about soy, I hope I'll have plenty of options. My husband who is gluten sensitive, but has no other dietary limitations, can't wait to get there and have his GF steak and cheese!

Apparently the owner has a family member with gluten issues which is why they have such a large GF menu. We can only hope that this is what all menus will look like in the future, with ample GF options!

Julie - That menu is awesome. I wish we had a restaraunt like that around here!

Julie,

I'm going to up the urgency in scheduling a trip to Bethesda to visit one of my very favorite people! I have heard of that bakery, Sweet Sin, where they get their desserts.

Great find - I think you might be seeing Zizzle there one of these fine days...

Thanks,
Sara

I've been to Lilit Cafe. It's near my hubby's office (i'm jealous), and only 15 mins from my house. I had the GF crab cake which they are known for. Nothing award-winning, but good, safe food. It's a bit of a hole in the wall, and combines the cafe with sales of beer and wine (many GF beers, like Bard's), and some specialty GF groceries. The highlight for me was the baked goods from Sweet Sin bakery. Sinful cupcakes!!

Bethesda does pretty well at catering to the GF crowd overall. The population is largely white and affluent, so gluten intolerance seems common. I ate at Lebanese Taverna this weekend, another restaurant well-known for catering to celiacs. The GF menu had numerous options, but only ice cream for dessert :(

Now that is a menu and I am going to do my best to get there some day. Maybe on the way to visit our friends in vA. Thanks for making us aware of them.

Love, Maggie

Julie,

That's great - thanks for sharing.

Here in Houston we are getting more and more options all the time. We have a few completely GF restaurants and bakeries. Many of the more upscale restaurants have gluten free friendly menus. I belong to both the local celiac society and ROCK (raising our celiac kids) groups and get tons of info on restaurants.
