Soy in magnesium stearate (ingredient in capsules)??

Post by bevfromwa »

I have been wondering about this ingredient, (magnesium stearate) which seems to be present in any supplement that is encased in a capsule. A search turns out that it probably has soy in it.
Today I was looking at Vitacost to order the calcium supplement I've been taking for years. It is called Bone Booster Complex, about the same as the name brand Bone Up, but about $5 a bottle cheaper. The bottle I am currently using says nothing, the ingredients on the web mention SOY in bold print. I called to ask and they assured me that the formula has not changed, it is the FDA labeling law that now requires it. The Bone Up brand says " contains: soy (in trace amounts)"

I'd appreciate any comments from fellow soy avoiders--are we getting enough in these trace amounts to harm us?

Thanks, Beverly

Reaction thresholds vary among individuals, but in general - yes, for someone who is sensitive to soy, such trace amounts can cause a reaction, unfortunately.

The "experts" claim that vegetable oils do not contain any proteins, and so they cannot be allergenic. Unfortunately, those claims don't mean much to those of us who react to them anyway.
