UK Riots
I'm sure you have all heard by now about the Riots in the UK.
I thought it might be worthwhile mentioning to you all that I am currently safe. and the nearest rioting to me at the moment is in Manchester and Nottingham both of which are about 100 miles away. Although in the past hour it has also been confirmed to have started in Sheffield which is about 50 miles away from me.
There are a lot of rumours flying around at the moment though, like there are riots in Leeds (not been confirmed by the news yet) but if that is true it brings it closer to York (13 miles).
Tbh I don't really like to watch the news about things like this as these stories scare me, but I have seen reports that people have lost everything through the acts of some mindless 'yobs' which is wrong.

Katy,
I'm sorry to hear it's spreading so close to you - and glad you're safe. Hope it stays that way, truly. It's an interesting and dramatic difference the way rioting takes place in the UK and here (in NYC, believe me, if we behaved that way... the police would probably shoot to kill a great deal sooner... whether that's a successful deterrent or a different flavor of madness, is anyone's guess).
Glad you're not hyper-focused on bad news. We turned off an excellent BBC broadcast his morning, and I said to my husband - I believe it is worth knowing about this, and even important to learn about this, and I cannot learn this over breakfast and had a good day.
Thinking of you,
Sara

Morning Katy,
So glad you are safe for now. Manchester is about 60 miles from my UK family and we are hoping it does not get any closer. They are in Barrow-In-Furness and praying for everyone's safety.
Stay safe and Love, Maggie

Hey all.
From what I gather it started out as someone with a gun shot an officer so they shot them and it killed them. The family of said dead person organised a peacful protest which lead to people deciding to riot for no reason at all, this all happened on saturday. (For those of you who don't know, It is illegal to own a gun in the UK and to walk around with any offencive weapon)
The government are now saying it should all be under control in the next couple of days.

There where no riots last night and tonight it seems to still be good. But a lot of soccer matches were cancelled as the fans are sterotypically known to be hooligans and the police didn't want to add fuel to the fire!
The police think it may all kick off again at the weekend though.
Also.... There was a piece on the news today about an 11 year old girl who was in court today charged with criminal damange who refused to apologise for what she had done as her parents where happy with her for what she had done!
