update

Post by Gabes-Apg »

just a quick update re my scopes this week.

have to say that the prep 'picoprep' was not too bad as a prep process.

the acid issues are causing some damage and i have a hiatus hernia, part of my dishcharge pack was the script for some PPI's. (no discussion just the script... )
discussion with Tex and then with my friend Maria the naturopath i have decided to stick with the potassium powder, Vit D3 approach for the acid regurgitation management

i also had some hemorroids banded so am taking it easy for a few days.

i did ask the specialist to request staining of any biopsies taken, this is not common practice here in australia so she was not sure if the lab could/would do it, but she did request it.
in the brief 3 min chat i had with the specialist while still groggy we only discussed the acid reflux and hiatus hernia.
I will not see the specialist for about 8 weeks (she is going on leave) based on that there musnt have been anything new or nasty.

digestion is quite good post scopes, i am having lots of gooey rice and jelly (not together) to help any inflammation

Hi Gabes,

I was hoping you'd update us! It sounds as if you have gotten some answers. Ouch.......I hope the hemorrhoid treatment wasn't too painful. Good news that the digestion is behaving!

I don't blame you for not wanting to take the PPIs. What do you use to help neutralize the acid? When I have a sour stomach, I take plain calcium carbonate powder (from Freeda vitamins online so it is free from all sensitivities). I just mix a spoonful of powder with some applesauce. I like it better than sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) because it provides some calcium.

I hope you feel better each day. :bouqueofpinkroses:

Love,

Polly

P.S. I just saw your post on another thread about recently buying some calcium carbonate! HA! What is it they say......something about great minds thinking alike.

Gabes,

I'm sure you're happy to have the procedure finished. It will be interesting to see if they stain the biopsies and, if so, what the report is.

Ouch! with the banding of hemmorhoids. They can be very painful and take a few days to shrink. I hope you find some relief soon.

Thanks Polly and Gloria

Gloria, i have not been in that much pain, there is noticeable discomfort, moreso when i start bending and lifting anything (ie doing the washing) I only took small amout of painkillers the first night and i have been ok since, if anything the comfort level is better post banding than before the banding. Taking the week off work and being able to wear comfy clothes and not having to sit all day has also helped.

Polly, great minds do think alike! Very pleased to hear that you are ok
Today i picked up a 'large tub' with about a kilo of pure calcium carbonate. (all the way from houston texas) my friend maria the naturopath could not source a safe product via supplement companies, i purchased it via my pharmacist who does compound products.
1 teaspoon is 120% required daily intake of calcium.

the plan for acid control is to have 1/4 teaspoon Calc Carbonate with the potassium powder (which i take about 4 times a day) and 5000iu of Vit D3 per day.

Hi Gabes,

Glad the scopes went well and the prep process was tolerable (usually that's the worst) Hopefully you will get the acid under control with the cocktail you are taking. I would never use a PPI again either. I was surprised to hear that they aren't staining for mast cells in Australia. I hope they can complete the test to maybe give you some answers.

I'm sure you do feel better after the hemorrhoids were banded. Hope they get better each day.

Gabes,

Acid reflux/GERD is obviously a very difficult problem to treat, so I certainly hope that the treatment program that you have outlined does the job. So many people who come here with MC have a serious reflux problem, and we definitely need a better way to control it than using a PPI. And, of course, there are many people who now have MC, because they have been using a PPI. Doctors prescribe them way too freely, considering the possible consequences.

Wishing you the best of luck in your recovery,
Tex

Hi Gabes,
I was thinking of you over the weekend and on Monday. You must be glad that is behind you and on the road to recovery. Take it easy and enjoy your week off.
