A quick update

Post by suzieq »

Hi all,

Just a quick update. I did not get the job that I interviewed for a month ago and I only had 1 other interview since. My house went on the market last week, had some people look at it, good feedback. Will see what happens.

I mentioned in an earlier post that I see too many Drs. Now I can add 1 more to my list. Because of my osteoporosis and taking Entocort, I joined a gym with a trainer working with me a few times a month so I wouldn't get hurt. I told the trainer that I was doing this to build up bone density and if he happened to get my upper arms firmed up, that would be great. Well, I got hurt. One session he had me doing all squatting exercises. I couldn't move for 2 days afterward then I went back to do the program by myself. I did the 1st exercise in the program and all of the muscles in my thighs pulled, especially the right thigh. I was favoring that leg and by doing so my lower back went out. After two weeks of not being able to move, I gave in and found a chiropractor. She is wonderful. She took such a complete medical history and when I told her that I was diagnosed with CC, her response was "and now your on a gluten free diet, right? I couldn't believe it. I gave her a copy of the Enterolab results which she took her time reading and asked to keep the copy. The gastro Dr. barely looked at the Enterolab results and told me I wasted my money. Anyway, it turns out that the chiropractor is also a clinical nutrionist.

Then I had my yearly exam with my gynecologist, who has a really complete medical history for me. I gave her an update of what I have been diagnosed with recently CC, fibromyalgia, underactive thyroid, oral lichen planus and she knew about the osteoporosis. Her comment afterward was "those are all autoimmune disorders". I said that I knew that because of the internet, that no other doctor told me that. She said that maybe it had something to do with the fact that I am a carrier of Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Syndrome and that maybe that was a stretch but something that should be looked into. In 1982 I lost my first child to Severe Combined Immunodeficiency Syndrome finding out then that both my husband and I were carriers for my child to have it.

Anyway, they were interesting Dr. visits, giving me hope that some Drs. know about CC.

Sorry, I just reread everything, it wasn't a quick update after all. I hope everyone on the East coast stays safe during the hurricane.

Susanne,

I'm very sorry to hear you got injured. But your chiro sounds wonderful - your gynecologist as well.

I hope your autoimmune research is informative and not alarming. Hopefully, you've already done the most important thing to prevent further AI issues, by eliminating gluten. (I'm hoping that for myself and a lot of others among us as well!)

All my best, and thanks for the update. Hope the house sale goes well - it sounds as though you're off to a promising start in this nervous market.

Good luck to you in the storm as well,

sara

Susanne,

I'm impressed! Two doctors with knowledge of AI issues, one even familiar with gluten intolerance. That must be pretty reassuring.

I'm sorry that you've gotten injured from exercising and hope you feel better soon.

I'll be interested in how you fare with your osteoporosis.

Susanne,

What a great week you've had, as far as doctors are concerned.

Good luck with the house sale ... and job search.

Hi Sara, Gloria and Sharaine,

Thanks for your support. The chiropractor has helped and now I know I found someone that can help with my gluten free struggles. I will be putting my gym membership on a freeze until my back totally heals and will be stopping the trainer, who is young and probably not the right fit for me.

We had 4 couples look at the house last weekend and the feedback was good, someone looked last night and someone is coming by tomorrow. There are 75 houses on the market in my town, that's a lot of houses on the market in my town.

I went to the food store, stocked up on food, water and got my batteries and I think that I'm set for the hurricane. I am about 25 minutes west of NYC. My daughter lives in Hoboken, NJ and a reverse 911 call from the mayor urged all residents to evacuate, so she may be home for the weekend.

Stay safe and thanks again,
Susanne

My MIL is in upstate New York and they are being told that NYC is transferring all hospital and nursing home patients to facilities further north in ancticipation of the storm surge. That is a major undertaking!! Best wishes to all the public servants, nurses and first responders out there!

We're stocked up with "you must be kidding" attitude here ;) At the dog park this morning, everyone was asking my husband if we were leaving... we're on very high ground, far from the "zone A" waters. They asked if he has a "go bag" packed, and he said he's going to "go" to his favorite restaurant, if the worst happens. (I think that's called denial, but I sure don't want to argue with it.)

The hospitals in shore/river areas are being told to prep for evac or prove they can ride it out, but the inland ones aren't being pushed. We're looking in on an older neighbor today (she's on high ground, too), and we'll have some hatches to batten down at my friend's business today, right down by the harbor. I'm guessing we won't be working outside on Sunday!

I'm confident we'll be OK up here (lots of neighborhoods with 'hill' and 'heights' in the name), hoping all's well down closer to the water, and south of here where it will hit first, and maybe hardest.

Susanne, I hope your daughter is a little easier to nudge than my husband, and she and her go-bag are already headed your way,

Sara,
Please keep us posted (if you can!) so we don't worry about all you east-coasters. My mom was living on Staten Island (at the top of a hill) during the 1938 hurricane (she was 9) and she says she'll never forget it! Batten down the hatches, and stay safe!

My mom (in Methuen, Mass.) had vivid memories of the '38 hurricane, too.

It feels as though the hysteria here is a little bigger than the storm (we can get some awful flooding from time to time - not near me - with unnamed storms that get no fuss at all). I could be wrong...

My friend's biz is across the street from "Zone A" - and a block away. If the stuff across the street gets the storm surge, or the folks an inch to the south... we'll get it, too. So we're hoping they're wrong - and she'll do more prep tomorrow.

On the upside, apparently a lot of plywood's been sold - sandbags, too! So maybe there will be a little economic up-tick ;)

Here's hoping for the best,

Sara

My daughter will be on early train from Hoboken tomorrow morning. I am hoping that my son will be safe in Astoria, NY, he's staying. My kids would tell you that I'm the biggest worry wart on the face of the planet.

Here's hoping everyone will be safe.

Susanne, I think your son in Queens is fine. I'm sure he'll see rain, and there will be inconvenience and disruption to the local businesses, but most of Astoria is "Zone C" - two away from the big threat. That's the same as where we are in Brooklyn - my husband just told me he plans to shop at the Greenmarket here tomorrow morning, but I have a feeling the farmers will not be there! Let's hope that's the worst that happens to us.

Have your son let me know if he runs short on dog food or potato chips, which somehow seem to be the specialties of the house here!

Hoping for the best,

Sara
