Ginny,
I'm sorry too, that your birthday was spoiled by MC.
I just wanted to comment on the remarks about Pentasa: We all respond differently to the various medications, and so until we have actually tried them, we can't be sure that they might not work for us. The 5-ASA drugs are all based on the same active ingredient, (mesalamine), but they all have slightly different methods of presentation of the active ingredient, (and different inactive ingredients), so it's conceivably possible that we might respond to them differently, and one or more might work, while the others do not.
Also, I sometimes wonder if the timing of a drug regimen might affect the outcome. IOW, we might be more receptive to certain drugs, at certain phases of our disease. We know, for example, that diet has a lot to do with our symptoms, so just because we may have tried a drug, and it didn't seem to help, at one point in our "disease cycle", doesn't mean that we might not show a more favorable response to it at another stage.

And, of course, taking two or more drugs in combination sometimes backfires, if we react adversely to one of the drugs, but on the other hand, in some cases, a combination might work symbiotically.
One thing's for sure - our working knowledge of this disease hasn't scratched the surface of what we
need to know about it. I truly believe that somewhere, there is a combination of diet and meds that will work for each of us, (even though it won't work for all of us), if we can only find it.
Good luck with your new doctors.
Love,
Tex
