Joan, this was helpful - I think I may run through it again and pull out some 'talking points' for a couple of friends who are so hoping that gluten isn't their issue... it's not that I know for sure that it is (you know I suspect it!), but this is a lot of good information in a highly understandable and non-threatening format, I think...
Thanks!
Thanks!
I read his book a while back. I agreed with most of what he said but not all. I don't believe IgG testing for food sensitivities is accurate. I also seem to remember that he commented negatively about stool testing (meaning enterolab). I got his newsletter for a while but stopped it. I just get the sense he is riding the gluten free gravy train.

Interesting, Mary Beth - I was surprised he was talking about that sort of allergy testing, which has been unhelpful for quite a few people I know (and perhaps counter-productive, as it convinced them they didn't have a problem with some foods that may have actually been causing them to react).
I still think there's something accessible about this presentation - I particularly like the LONG list of conditions and symptoms that may be caused by gluten intolerance, thinking of my friends who could check off quite a handful, but believe they are tolerating gluten just fine because they don't have D.
I think I'll review before sharing - thanks,
Sara

I am almost certain it was his book Healthier without Wheat that talked about that, but of course I could be wrong. I know it didn't make it into my "keep" pile when I cleaned out my books.
Sara, his presentation, like his book, is mostly accurate. Maybe just share with people that we know a better testing method.

Remember - he's claiming to be an expert at treating a disease that doesn't actually exist. FWIW, I agree with Mary Beth.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I live in Seattle, so he is local to me. When I started having my most recent flare that led to my MC diagnosis, I researched him a bit (because I thought I had IBS). Suffice it to say that I didn't choose to go to him.
As for the food allergy testing, I had that some time back and it didn't show anything for me but a reaction to eggs. Even that reaction was explained away because i had recently had several egg-based vaccines in preparation for a business trip (that never happened) to India. So those tests were completely unhelpful for me. I guess maybe they help some people.
