Gayle,
I just visited a physician website, and they are aghast at these code proposals. Most think this has to be a satire or parody. Others think it is a way to deny reimbursement or reward insurance companies (who will have to hire oodles more people and train them) or software developers (who will have to design a huge new system). My favorite comment was that it is "OCD run amok". One said that the scary thing is that we actually believe it, then said "no, the scariest thing is that it might be true".
It was kinda funny, though, when they started talking about some of the specifics. Apparently there are codes for turtle bites as well as collision with a turtle. One doc wondered, given the pace of a turtle, how a collision could hurt anyone. Another doc responded that there was a Greek philosopher who had a turtle dropped on his head. A third doc immediately chimed in:"Of course, it was Aristurtle". So you can see, it is the butt of much joking. Let's hope it is all just one big joke.

I'm pretty sure that this is just one more part of the deal that the current administration made with the insurance companies, to satisfy their demands, (IOW, kiss their butts), so that they would agree to the "Health Care Reform" bill. It will be interesting to see what else surfaces, as additional terms of the bill are revealed, as time goes by.
