News about regulatory T cells...

Post by sarkin »

Just got this:

http://www.futurity.org/health-medicine ... dium=email

and here is a link to the study: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/ar ... 131100358X

I wonder whether this will lead to a new insight about how gluten can 'trip' the immune system, and/or what leads those of us with gluten-sensitive genes to switch over to full-on gluten intolerance.

I haven't read the whole study yet (first, dinner and dog-walking!)

Everyone and his or her dog must be studying this topic these days. A few days ago Rosie posted another link about regulatory T-cells:

http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14647

And a few days earlier, Marliss posted this topic, also about regulatory T-cells:

http://www.perskyfarms.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=14616

I'm sure more insight will be gained, with each successive study, but the problem is that no study ever seems to be conclusive. This remark is not directed at the links that you cited, but have you ever noticed that most researchers end their reports by stating that more research needs to be done, (or something to that effect). Gee, you don't suppose that could be a subtle solicitation for more research funds, do you. It implies that they will never reach any definitive conclusions, because that wouldn't be good for job security.

Thanks for the links.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Tex,

I know just what you mean. I remembered Rosie's link, but had forgotten the one that Marliss posted. I just don't know how to think about these things, from what perspective, and how to interrelate our personal experiences collected here with the slowly growing bunch of research data.

But I think I have to keep trying - and the best place I know for keeping these things thumbtacked to the bulletin board is here, on this forum. I think we're at a tip-of-the-iceberg understanding - not just us, but the whole scientific community. (See how I include us among the scientific thinkers?)

Thanks - among many other things - for being the master librarian of all the real and potential insights that might (and will) help us all.

Love,
Sara

Sara - It's funny that you used the tip of the iceberg analogy. I was talking to my dad on Monday about genes and how they are finding which genes are indicated in autoimmune diseases. I used the same analogy...I believe our genes are so complex that their findings are just the tip of the iceberg.

Hugs,
Denise
