How about a new shingles thread?

Post by bevfromwa »

yesterday Dave and I got our flu shots at Safeway. After hearing Gloria's story about the shingles vaccine being backordered, decided to ask the pharmacist about it. He said they had plenty of vaccine. I also asked if there was a data base for those who had received the shot who got it anyway--I've heard 50% up to 60%. He said he didn't think so, then asked another pharmacist, they both agreed that there is no place to report this. Could this be another ploy from big Pharma to cover up the truth? Who, me, doubting Beverly?

Anyway, if you want to come to "middle of nowhere, Sequim, WA" you can get a shot.

Hi Beverly,

You'd think that someone would be keeping track of how efficient these vaccines are. I had the pneumonia vaccine about 4-5 years ago and have had pneumonia twice since then. I've told my PCP, but I'm pretty sure he hasn't reported it to anyone.

Yeah, I'm sure DH can go to the nearest Walgreens and get the shot - for $200 plus. Our insurance won't pay for it from a pharmacy, and apparently my PCP won't (can't?) buy it from them. He went through a supplier for mine.

I think DH will be waiting another 6 months when he'll be on Medicare. Some here have had the vaccine covered under Medicare. If it isn't, then we'll cough up the $200 plus.

Once a vaccine is cleared for sale, the pharmaceutical/medical communities don't want to know if it's not working, because that can only interfere with sales, and create extra work and time demands. The selected vaccine is the only option they have, so they don't see any point in wasting time on second thoughts, from a business viewpoint.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
