I feel like crap. i have been on entocort 9mgs/day for 6 weeks and am now on my 2nd week of 2 pills/day.
soon as i came down from 3pills a day my stomach became dodgy again, not D but close.
I am trying to be good about eating GF and dairy free and I am.
I nagged my GI doc so much to get off the pills as I dont want to be on them, so its my own fault but as you all suggested I would go back to feeling like crap as its not enough time to heal.
its hard to figure out what is causing me to feel crappy, bloating etc...
I finally started to keep a food diary.
so it looks like i will be back to the begining.
i wonder is it better to be on less conc. of entocort for longer or on the higher dose for shorter period in terms of long term side affects?
I don't want to go back on it.
I hope it doesnt come back as bad.
thanks,
sheila

Sheila,
I have been on Entocort since April. I was on 9 mg for about eight weeks then weaned down to 6 mg. I tried going down to 3 mg and everyday was a little different not knowing what to expect. I went back to 6 mg about 6 weeks ago. I have no side effects. As you probably know most of it goes right to your intestines. My doctor does not want me to stay on it forever so I have decided to take Imuran which I have been on for one month now. In a few more weeks I am going to begin the weaning down process. Hopefully by then the Imuran will have kicked in and I won't have too many issues. I also hate taking any medications. I am 67 and other than the occasional antibiotic or pain med. for surgery I have never been on a prescription drug until this past year when everything seemed to fall apart. I hope someday to also stop the Imuran. Time will tell. I just decided, for me, I wanted a better quality of life. I am GF, DF, DF, and SF, and also watch fructose and too many veggies and fruits. If you check around you will see a lot of people stay of Entorcort for many months. Like they say on this forum, everyone is different so ultimately their course of treatment is too, but we certainly learn a lot from each other.

Hope you start feeling better,
Nancy

Sorry to hear it, Sheila.

I can't advise about Entocort from experience, but wonder whether you could add a symptom-controlling OTC product temporarily, like Pepto Bismol, or Imodium. Nancy has reported luck with a product called Diarrhea Stop, which I've been meaning to add to my toolkit in case of emergency.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

The thing that has worked magic for me has been probiotics. I've tried GF/DF Culturelle, which worked wonders but seemed to make me smell bad :worried: . I'm now on a probiotic from Sam's Club that costs one third as much, which seems to be working just as well. Norman even visits sometimes!
