I've been lurking aroud the board but have been too busy to be as active as I would like. Welcome to all the newbies! I haven't taken the time to chime into your posts but you have found the right place for help.
Historically October and February are my busiest months at work. I am not sure why, but we get far more calls for counseling during those months, so that's partially responsible for my absence. I also just found out that my office building is being sold and we will need to relocate to a new space. Surprisingly I am not meeting this challenge with stress. I am going with the flow and know the right opportunity will come about. We have been busy looking at offices to rent. Moving won't be much fun we'll get through that.
Even though it's only been 3 weeks since my beloved Missie died we adopted another dog this weekend. My husband has always wanted a retired racing greyhound, so we decided not to wait. Her name was Misty but since that was Missie's original name and too close to Missie, we changed it to Minnie. She's very gentle and sweet but definitley needs to learn the house rules. She can easily jump on the kitchen counter and thinks all fiood is meant for her:)
Once things settle down I will have more time to post.

Congratulations on the new family member and also on handling the extra stress in a positive way. Hope you find a new office soon and hope it will be better than the old one.

Congrats on your new fur friend! She looks so sweet! And a counter surfer! How old is she?
Good luck with the move. Glad to see that the stress of having to move is not bothering you. I'm sure the exercise and meditation are helping a lot with that.

Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
She's gorgeous! Our dog has very similar coloring - your girl is like a graceful, elegant version of our shorter, stockier goofball (http://www.flickr.com/photos/57839015@N ... 7638167113 - our neighbor takes great pictures of our beach week).
Our guy's black spots become more pronounced when he's wet - and when he's super-excited, he actually blushes enough that you can see it right through his fur. Can't wait to hear more about Minnie. It's always amazing to me how quickly a dog can adapt to the house rules, though it must seem crazy to them that we leave food on the counter for even an instant without expecting the dogs to find it...
She's 2 1/2 years old. She had a 6 month racing career and never won a race so she was retired early. She is still sooooo fast. What's so funny is that her legs are so long that our other dog (Australian shepherd) can walk underneath her.
Sara,
For some reason I couldn't open the link. Greyhounds have very thin skin and we can see through hers as well. We haven't gotten her wet yet but I'm sure that will be an experience. She's actually doing very well in the transition ecept for wanting to bolt out the front door every time it is opened, jumping in the garden beds and wanting to check out what everyone is eating. She's great on a leash, she's housebroken and she doesn't bark (she roos, which sounds very funny). We just need to fine tune the manners.

She sounds wonderful - our guy needed *a lot* of help with manners, including housetraining and leash work. Luckily, he was so inexperienced that he couldn't manage the stairs... and this gave our cats a welcome escape while he calmed down... but it also meant we needed to sleep in the living room for the first couple of weeks, during housetraining, so we could rush him out the door at odd hours of the night. Ah, good times... He also has a friend who can walk/run right under him.
He actually swims now! His first trip to the beach, he ran up and down barking frantically at the water... so we were amazed when he up and taught himself to swim. http://www.flickr.com/photos/57839015@N ... 638167113/
Can't wait to hear more about your beauty, as she settles in and learns the rules.
He does seem to get little cuts and scratches easily - but he doesn't care at all. He's a real rough-and-tumble kind of guy. Sweet as can be, but very fond of a wild rumpus He's fast, too - but I bet your Minnie could still run circles around him. A couple of weeks ago, we had him on the injured list - long walks, but not hard play in the park. When my husband let him off leash at the park again, he took off like a rocket on a giant charging run... wow!
And it's lovely that we have such a dog family here, yes!
Hi Mary Beth, what a sweet heart Misty must be. What's funny is that a family just down the street from me has just recently adopted a greyhound and her name is also Misty.
I love your attitude of just going with the flow, managing stress is a key componet in living with MC.
Congrats on your beautiful new sighthound. That's just great. We had thought of adopting a greyhound but a friend had one down here (deep South) who had skin problems from the sun.
I often wish our Borzoi were Greyhounds, especially during shedding time.
DISCLAIMER: I am not a doctor and don't play one on TV.
We have the collar - they gave it to us at the adoption center. It works like a charm, even when she sees a squirrel or bunny.
I burn easily too so we won't be walking in the hottest part of the day, but it does get cold enough here in the winter that I will have to get her a coat.
It's only been 3 days but she's a real charmer and has won our hearts.

The other day as I was walking in the park, I noticed a woman with 2 beautiful greyhounds. I turned to my SO and said "that's the kind of dog I want if I ever get one". I stopped and talked with her, and she told me they were race track rescues. She said they were absolute sweethearts, and very easy to manage. They were a male and a female, and she had gotten only one, but then decided to get another one to keep it company, and they get along wonderfully.
I also noticed on someone's profile here that their hobby is to care for "retired" greyhounds. So between you, Joe's story and these two - that makes 4 greyhound stories within a couple of days :). Anyhow, I'm soooo happy for you that you got a new companion, and have no doubt that you will get her adjusted to your household in no time. Sorry you have to go through the hassle of a move, but very happy you're able to handle it well stress wise.
Love,
Kari

Thanks Kari! Your local rescue group might have photos and bios so you can start to see what is available. I had selected 2 dogs by photos because of their eyes, and Minnie was one of them. The other one, Peaches, was already adopted when we got there. When we went to the adoption center we met each of the dogs individually so we could see their personalities. Some were shy, some were wild, some were huge and some were smaller, but you will know the right one for you when you see it. I hope you choose to get one - we are thrilled with her so far.
