Nausea Just After Eating
I have just gotten over a 5 week flare up and have been feeling pretty good for the past 7 days. One issue that has arisen is feeling nauseous right after eating not matter what I eat it seems. The nausea starts about 10 to 15 minutes after eating and lasts about a hour.
In another thread Tex had mentioned gastroparesis as a potential cause, the question I have is can gastroparesis start that soon? If not what else might be a cause to this nausea.

Hi Joe,
That's terrible and so sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. Did you talk to Dr. Nagri about this? How about your acupuncturist, did you try going back for help there? Seems like we take two steps forward and one step backwards. I am glad that you are feeling better and lets hope it continues.

Hmmmmmmm. Well, yes, if gastroparesis is the problem, you should feel the effects fairly promptly. However, you should feel too full, before the nausea begins.
Have you by any chance increased your dosage rate of Imuran lately? That's a common problem with Imuran - something like 10 to 15% of people who take Imuran have a nausea and/or vomiting problem, but the problem usually shows up within the first several months of use, for most patients.
Assuming that you're eating different foods at various meals, and still having the problem, that suggests that it's not due to specific foods, per se, but rather a systemic problem of some sort. That being the case, I would suggest that you discuss it with your doctor, just in case something is going on that needs attention.

Hi tex, I don't feel full beforehand and it even happens when eating a small meal.
I have not changed my dosage of Imuran for about 8 months now. It did initially cause some nausea but that subsided in the first few weeks last November.
Nancy I have not talked to Dr Nagri as of yet but may if this keeps up.

Joe,
I had been wondering how you were doing, since you have not been posting much lately. So sorry to hear of the long flare - that's always so very frustrating.
I wish I had some insight to offer regarding the nausea, but all I can add is that it is one of my routine symptoms (it happened yesterday, and I was nauseous for several hours). However, it certainly does not happen after every meal, so I agree with Tex and Nancy that you should have it checked out.
Lots of luck with resolving this
, and please let us know how you fare.
Love,
Kari

"My mouth waters whenever I pass a bakery shop and sniff the aroma of fresh bread, but I am also grateful simply to be alive and sniffing." Dr. Bernstein
Not much, if I remember correctly, because you're probably already doing most of them. I believe the standard treatment calls for smaller meals, low fiber, more liquids, (such as soup, or pureed meals). If the nausea is bad, an anti-emetic might help, and Reglan is sometimes prescribed to stimulate peristalsis in the stomach.Joe wrote:Tex if it is gastroparesis, what can be done to help?
You're not diabetic, as I recall - the issue is closely aligned with diabetes, for some reason or other.

I have a theory that when I take Immodium for a flare, it doesn't just slow down my intestines--it seems to slow down my stomach, too. For several days after taking it, I have nausea after eating, with that "too full" feeling, no matter what I ate or how much. Sometimes the nausea hits before the "too full" feeling, within 15-20 minutes, but it lasts for several hours, like my stomach is emptying REALLLLLY slowly and I don't feel better till it does.
This isn't very scientific, but it's one explanation.
Hope you get to feeling better really soon--I'd rather be anything than nauseous!
