Z,

I think you might suspect histamines as well as pathogens in this case... and I hope you feel much better, really fast. It's just awful, getting zapped twice in a week.

Hi again

Feeling better this evening. Have been to see my GP. He's given me codeine as he wants to 'keep steroids in reserve' Maybe is just a one off or even just a morning thing, but I couldn't deal with feeling like that all the time.

Hi Cynthia

I haven't started a food diary yet. I don't know why when clearly it will help.

Zizzle

I'm always very careful about eating food past it's best as I've always had such a sensitive stomach, but assume the rest of my family would suffer at some point as we eat the same meals and rarely eat out. Oh I see, you think we don't have the resistance of 'normal' people. Sorry! That makes a lot of sense

Beni

That is quite a coincidence! I know a few people who have the thyroid issue, but none with Adenomyosis, and apart from the people I've met on here I only know of one person with MC.

Thank you all for your support and good wishes, I really do appreciate it.

Becky,

Quite honestly, I was in no condition to keep a food diary with any competence when first ill. It's great that you know that it will help you. You can just keep that idea "on the list" until you're ready to address it. (As my husband would say... though I've never actually seen his 'list' myself.)

It's great that you're feeling better. You may want to read up on Entocort if the codeine doesn't do the trick (wow, codeine does constipate me, but not in a good way... hope it's the perfect intervention for you right now). Entocort doesn't have the full-on systemic effect that most steroids do, because it has a coating to ensure that most of it stays in the gut. Like all drugs, some tolerate it better than others, and some have side effects and others don't - but if you feel you're ready for the big guns, and your GP isn't... keep that in mind.

I've not taken Entocort myself, and am by no means pushing you toward it. In fact, I hope you are so much better you don't need it... here's hoping!

Hi Sara

To be honest the only diet adjustment I have made is that I stop eating when it's bad. I made the connection quite quickly that it helps. I haven't eaten much in the last couple of days because the LC is flaring, so my weight will start to drop again soon. Also feeling very dehydrated. My skin is dry and my mouth is very dry. Trying to take in plenty of fluids but worry that will make the D worse. Thankfully things do improve as the day goes on at the moment, whereas it was a 24hr thing when I first got it, but is still a horrible start to the day and when I go onto early shift at work it will be really hard.

My GP has said if I don't start to improve by tomorrow I have to try the steroids anyway. Not feeling as optimistic as I did last night. Has really hit me this time  Thought it was under control, how naive.

Anyway, thank you for all your help. Hope you're feeling better than I do

Becky

Sara,
The "total body cleanout" ended around 4 pm, just in time to pick up my son from school and go to a grocery store. I kept my daughter home from preschool because I couldn't leave the house long enough to take her in. Not sure if the Pepto helped, or if my body just successfully got rid of whatever it was. I'm now dehydrated like Becky, and somewhat weary of what I eat, but feeling fine otherwise. I sure hope this is not the "new" gluten reaction for me. The pain was really difficult to bear. But it sure reminded me of past stomach bugs, just strange that I can knock it out in less than a day. I guess I have an advanced intestinal flushing system.

Z,

Glad you're feeling better - sorry it was such a rough day. (It must be quite something, feeling that lousy with your lively, healthy daughter at home... I find even a slightly "off" day really takes it out of me, and there was nothing 'slight' about your reaction.)

I know that weary, wary feeling, too... and how hard it can be to administer 'plenty of fluids' - which I hope you're increasingly replenishing, at a pace that works for you.

Becky, the steroids will help you to tolerate foods that are causing inflammation for you... but if you don't eventually find out what they are, and eliminate them, you will need to keep taking the steroids indefinitely, because the inflammation will continue to be generated (and eventually, may overwhelm the steroids' ability to suppress it). I'm betting you've read enough around this forum to know what the most likely suspects are - gluten being #1, with dairy a close second. It can be tough to make significant diet change, but not nearly as tough as skipping meals forever, and a lot easier than flaring.

There is a recipe for a rehydration drink in the Dee's Kitchen section - I don't think drinking fluids makes D worse, and dehydration can go from annoying to emergency-room-time, so please be careful!

Wishing you well,

S
