rice milk
I was thinking about trying it bc lately i have been having problems with almond and coconut milk..But, I feel like I read somewhere that the rice one has a small trace of gluten in it. Is that true? Does anyone know which brands are good?
Thanks!
Jenny
Thanks!

Hi Jenny,
The milk that supposedly has gluten traces is Rice Dream. It is the only rice milk I could find that shows clean ingredients, but then I found out about the trace amounts. Guess the levels are below what is considered significant, so they don't have to report it. I still drink it occasionally and don't seem to have an adverse reaction.
Love,
Kari

Jenny,
You might try making your own rice milk (recipes are in Dee's kitchen.) It's pretty easy to make. It doesn't provide the calcium that the store brands do, but it is good for baking. I would take a calcium supplement when I drank it.

You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
I had heard about the trace amount also, so called the company. (Rice Dream) They said they use barley extract to process the milk, but then it is removed, leaving about 10 ppm per serving, which is below the 20 ppm to be labeled GF. That being said, as Tex says, it is a little here, a little there, and pretty soon you are over the limit and reacting. I am amazed that Costco sells so much of it. I thought it was thin and sweet tasting, even though there is no added sugar. It makes it hard to be an all purpose milk if you are drinking it, cooking with it, etc.
I haven't tried making my own as Gloria mentioned, but Gloria also has touted the almond milk recipe, which is my total "go to" milk now. It is really easy, delicious, and of course, being home made, has no garbage added. I drink it, cook with it, use it for "cream" sauces, etc. Depending on how much filtration you desire, takes a little experimentation, but is really good. Hope this helps,
