Align (probiotic) has anyone tried it?

Post by Robin »

I just started Align, my GI gave me samples and so far no problems(only been on it 3 days). Just wondering if there is anyone else on it and if they like it or if they had problems with it.

Best of health,
Robin

Robin,

Align contains milk protein, so it's out for me, and for a lot of us. (They say it does not contain lactose, the sugar - but since I know I react to casein.)

Let us know how it treats you,

Sara

Hi Robin,

My GI also gave me samples of Align. I took it for a few days and stopped, I was having problems with it. My entrolab results showed a sensitivity to casein. Also, my digestive system hasn't been right since I started taking Asacol, I had to discontinue that after a week because I couldn't tolerate it. I am weaning off Entocort now, 1 pill every 3 days for another week. So far, so good. BTW, my GI doesn't believe that diet has anything to do with CC. Good luck with the Align.

Be well,
Susanne

Hi Sara,

Here you go again! How do you know all of this? Where do you get all your info? You are totally amazing!!! I am lactose intolerant! But so far I haven't had any problems with it. I am wondering is it because I am on the Entocort and Asacol? I am starting to feel much better, the pain is almost gone (no more heating pad), NO D (YEPPIE), no more fever and my energy is coming back! I still have some bloating and gas but not much! I am still just having my chicken soup and applesauce but tomorrow I will add a cinnamon muffin (YUMMY, I just made them).

You are blowing my mind with all your knowledge about MC...diet, meds and lab test! I did order the test from Enterolab. I order the comprehensive A & C. Was that the one I was suppose to order? I cant wait to do it to see what I am sensitive too.

Best of health,
Robin

There was a thread recently about Align, I think - and I remembered it as something I thought wasn't for me... truly, everything I know, I learned here on this forum, or through Mr. Google

Other than that, there's a certain amount of experimentation. It's weird to be your own lab rat, isn't it? but better our own lab rat than someone else's...

As far as the panels go - I think you will be glad to get those results. If money is an issue, I think the 'other antigenic foods' panel is a less powerful tool than either panel A or B (with genes, if you have kids or other family with potential health issues)... and I am glad I learned that I had elevated anti-tissue-transglutaminase antibodies (yikes). The fat malabsorption turned out not to be a problem for me (surprisingly, maybe?), but has been for many others.

Having said ALL that - the panels were organized differently when I first ordered. So I made my choices based on different offerings. I would guess they are trying to encourage people to make the kind of choice that you just made, and though I am sure they are (on the one hand) trying to stay in business, I think they're also an ethical operation, committed to helping people who need the info they can provide. And - I cannot wait to hear your results!

I'm so glad you haven't had a bad response to the Align. Maybe it's a very small amount of that protein, and it is possible that you react to lactose, but not to the protein?? Here's hoping, and wishing you luck!

Robin,

I agree, Sara is totally amazing. I have learned so much from her, and Tex, plus so many others here on this Board. There are so many knowledgeable people here. Actually, they saved me. I would never have known to go GF or had the tests from Enterolab otherwise.

Sara,

I do take Align, and I know having given up dairy helps tremendously, but I didn't think about casein being in that probiotic. I just numbly took it every morning. That could be part of my problem, and I'm glad I read this post. I just never thought about it in those terms.

Thanks.

Hi Robin,
I tried Align and Culturelle with no appreciable improvement. Then tried a probiotic from Renew Life that seems to be working much better for me. I ordered the "Senior" one online, but the other day I saw the regular one in CVS. I will definitely keep using it, but will look locally for it once life returns to normal here in post nor'easter CT.

We are now on day 5 of no heat/power. I am thoroughly tired of 2011's weather drama...
