Lesley,

There's at least one flavor (I have been off almonds for 3-4 months). It's probably cashews instead, or something else that doesn't work for you. I find I do better with something less sugary (even if natural sugar) - but I had one in my purse at all times till very recently. Not all stores carry all flavors (my absolute favorite disappeared from NYC over the summer)...

I think you're right to avoid new things - I've been feeling pretty steady for some time now, and am not eager to rock the boat. Both nuts and dried fruit bear some risks... but when you're ready, making your own in this category is easy and lowers your risk substantially.

I have been eating pecans, but as I say, I am neither out of the initial flare, nor have I any idea what stimulates a flare. I need to figure that one out, and I have a long way to go. I wish I could find something really gentle (liquid paraffin, like Gabes takes, which my mom used to give us as kids) that would prevent the constipation. Then I could start to try things and see what sets me off. Meantime, I am nowhere even close.

Brandy,

It depends on the culture of your company regarding who you tell. Only you can assess that. Everyone in my company knows about me, and that was my intention. It helps them to understand my limitations. In fact, my office manager, who is wonderful, performs a mini audit on me each week when I tun in a pile of receipts for my travel expenses. I think it is funny but having someone at work who truly cares, and, who is helping to keep me honest, I have found, is a big help.

It has been over 14 months since my official diagnosis, and over 7 years since I have been struggling. Support at work is key. After all, we spend th majority of our waking hours on the job.

Use your intuition regarding with whom you share your condition.

Regards,

Rich
