Anyone try Zyflamend for inflammation?

Post by Zizzle »

I came across this post by Dr. Andrew Weil. I've been looking into taking Turmeric, Boswellia or some other herbal extract for inflammation. He recommends a combination product called Zyflamend.
You can take all of these herbs in combination. In fact, I most frequently recommend the herbal remedy Zyflamend, from New Chapter, Inc., which includes most of them and more, including holy basil, another Indian remedy

Sicne I'm not a good pill-taker, a combo pill sounds appealing.

Anyone ever try it?

I have a new doctor's appointment on Monday and plan to ask about herbal supplements.

Z,

I have, for joint/muscle pain. It didn't rock my world, and the bottle stresses to take it with a larger meal, so apparently there's some risk of tummy upset. It's possible that if I had taken it longer, or more consistently, I'd have had better results. I do take/like other New Chapter products without trouble (a women-herb thing, and sometimes their cinnamon, which I dream is messing with any evil bacteria I may have going on).

I still have a bottle - wish I could hand it to you over our virtual back fence.

I do use lots of turmeric in smoothies, and drink holy basil tea on occasion.

Are you considering it for joint pain, or general inflammation?

Just for MC-related inflammation. Luckily I don't have any joint pain. I guess I hadn't thought about the tummy trouble these natural anti-inflammatories might cause.

I think the turmeric does some good. We cook with it more than we used to, in addition to putting it in smoothies. Maybe I'll increase that practice:
Turmeric extract may improve irritable bowel syndrome symptomology in otherwise healthy adults: a pilot study.

Nancy,

We buy an organic brand sometimes (powdered, in a jar), and I also sometimes get it at a spice market (either whole, or ground - the whole I haven't done much with, but it was fascinating-looking).

It's a very specific flavor - actually, everything about our smoothies may be an acquired taste  I would start with a teensy bit.

We also make a cauliflower dish with cumin, and I sometimes include it in other cooking. It is very yellow, and will stain if given a chance - worth remembering to put on an apron (which I so often forget).
