Cynthia - never been tested, but I feel honored that he believes me that it's a real possibility. We talk about it from time to time. He's pretty healthy, but maybe the genetic test would let him know whether any odd symptoms he might have in the future deserve escalation.

I've had several people tell me within this week that they feel better without gluten but have no real problem with gluten. I say "that you know of" - because that was my story. My neighbor argued a little, having just told me how he went off his paleo diet and ate bready things and felt horrible and bloated - and his skin is kind of flaky and peeling, and I'm thinking... really?

We had dinner with friends we haven't seen in a long time - one can eat no soy, the other no dairy. Really?

My guess is that my husband's major "trigger" for gluten sensitivity has not yet been pulled. He may be less vulnerable now, because he eats so much less gluten. But...

I don't know if gluten is my husband's issue or not, but there sure is something going on. I know he looks at it the same way I did: if I don't have an epic reaction every time I eat a certain food, I can't possibly be sensitive to it. Before I went GF/DF, I had no idea what was triggering my symptoms, because they started out as an occasional thing, then a few times a month, then once a week or so, ...until it was constant. Once I stopped eating those things, it became much more apparent I was reacting to them when I did eat them. I wish I could get my whole family to take a 2-week gluten vacation and just see what cleared up!

Cynthia,

We actually had a gluten-free month! I long suspected gluten, though my MC had been in remission (maybe 'mostly in remission?). After a month, I thought I was maybe being silly, and we had no food in the house. (Good luck eating a gluten-free, *vegan* diet without some serious meal planning.) So we got our usual takeout. And I was much, much more sensitive to that flour tortilla - that's what brought me here, and WOW, am I gluten-sensitive now. Of course, I was accumulating gut damage that whole time, plus who knows what all else.

My husband feels much better without the gluten, but like yours, is kind of hoping that "low gluten" will do the trick. (And for him, I must admit, I cannot claim to know for certain that this is not the case.)

I think a few weeks off gluten is a great idea. I'm considering the Whole30 program, which is super-hard-core Paleo, and trying to enlist my DH and a friend who's been suffering a mysterious variety of things. Of course, that's hardly fair, because I am already eating very close to that diet, so it would be a far easier leap for me to lock down my diet just a little more...
