Is this a no no? Anyone try Naked Juices?

Post by desertrat »

I would love to find a healthy juice that doesn't aggravate MC. Has any taken the brand Naked Juice? The green machine flavor looks great. It has apple juice, mango puree, pineapple juice, banana puree, kiwi puree, spirulina, natural flavors, cholorella, broccoli, spinach, barley grass, wheat grass???? parsley, ginger root, blue green algae and odorless garlic. Since I haven't taken the Enterolab tests yet, is this drink a big no no for most people here?

I would be afraid to try that, because the natural flavors, and the barley grass, and wheat grass would be almost guaranteed to cause a reaction, and the mango, pineapple juice, spirulina, algae and garlic would have done me in, when I was recovering.

If you want to control MC in the shortest time possible, pass up any processed foods, especially if they have more than 5 ingredients listed on their label.

Mandy,

I hate to be the voice of NO - but as a long-time fan of supplements and healthy foods like that juice... my experience was that 'less is more/better.' Eliminating problem/trigger foods can bring relief, sometimes a pretty quick improvement; adding a supplement is a risky business, and is as likely to mess us up as to help.

I do take supplements now - I dropped everything and vetted each one, and have changed the brand/formula on several.

When we're really flaring, raw vegetables/fruits and fiber can be troublesome. Some folks have trouble with broccoli and other foods in that family when first healing (I don't recall that I did). Excessive oil can also be troublesome. What seems to work is peeling most fruit/veg, and cooking. I was fortunate to be able to re-add less-cooked vegetables in small quantities pretty early on, and now eat salads, etc., - but I think when your symptoms are active, the most important thing is to stop that misery - both in terms of long-term healing, and also for quality of life.

We now make smoothies several times a week. You will get there, and may even be able to tolerate this product... but for me, the risk of barley/wheat grass isn't worth it. It is possible that the proteins in the seeds/grains are not in the grassy parts, but... there are a lot of other foods that are green!

I drink Odwalla Green Juice all the time and have had no problem with it. When I was at my sickest all I could digest was a smoothie made with a banana, almond butter and green juice. We're all different in our intolerances, but this was a life-saver for me.
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.

It sounds like a healthy juice, but given the ingredients I would go cautiously. I have found that it is best that we start simply, minimal numbers of ingredients and then add back carefully. Stanz I'm glad this works well for you and your right we are all differrent and tolerate differrent items.

That would definitely throw me into a tailspin. If you should go this route, please take Joe's suggestion and do it slowly.

In my case I have discovered when it comes to juice, fresh juices give me upset bowels, worst are the smoothies (of course without milk). Juice out of packages goes generally spoken ok, unless there is pectin added to it or something on the label as added fibre (in these cases I always wonder WHY???). I also discovered in my case that the clear juices are the best choice: apple juice and grape juice. Any sugar added does not make a difference for me, although I do prefer the 100% juice. My favorite is ananas juice, sorry pine apple juice.

I explain it the same way as I have troubles with fresh fruit, but digest canned fruit quite well.

gosh, it's the opposite of what is considered healthy instead raw fruit en vegetables, fresh juices, everything cooked or out of tin, can, package...
