Hi Ya'll,
I went to my local Sprouts market today to pick up some Vitamin D, 5000 mg, which is what I think I have seen recommended here. I could not find anything that said "Vitamin D" - all I could find is "Vitamin D3" in 5000 "IU". Is that the same thing?
Thanks,
Robin
Is Vitamin D the same thing as Vitamin D3?

Robin,
Vitamin D3 is the form you want - the D2 form is pretty useless. (It is, of course, the one in fortified foods, and prescription forms of Vitamin D - go figure!)
Do check ingredients when you shop - I seemed to be reacting to something in the original Vitamin D3 I was taking. I now take one without a capsule (liquid drops), and without a lot of inactive ingredients. (It's Carlson brand, but that's not the only one that's safe by any means.) Each drop is 2,000 IU, so I have either 2 or 3 drops daily, depending on how much sun I've been getting. (Or, if I'm sneezing and suspect I've been exposed to something that's going around, I err on the high side.) So if you can't find an irritant-free formulation that's 5,000IU, go ahead and get a different strength, and adjust from there.
