Please, I am now seriously confused. I have been trying to go gluten free, as well as dairy, but cannot be sure how successful I've been because I've been noticing that my aches and pains come and go daily. They are not always constant, yet I know they are there. How does one know whether they are MC related? I go to get a massage once or twice a week and she notices that my neck, back and leg muscles are tight, tensed and she finds knots in them. (Even my butt muscles hurt!) Yet I also experience aches in my joints (knees, back of knees and lower back hips) that I am fairly sure are not due to being tense. So, I guess my question is, can MC cause tight and tense muscle pain, or just inflammation of body pain?

Mandy,
The initial healing period for me was very achy - muscles and joints. I do think it relates to overall inflammation, and even when our GF efforts are top-notch, and we're successful at avoiding gluten 100%, it can take time. On the other hand, if you suspect there's an ongoing generating new inflammation (like a rogue ingredient), it's possible you have another intolerance. The next likely suspect (not necessarily the right suspect, but a likely one) would be soy, which is an ingredient in even more packaged foods than gluten is.
I don't think we can always know to a certainty whether a particular symptom is directly related to MC, indirectly related, or unconnected altogether. But I think you'll get a better feel for it, over time. Hopefully, these pains will soon go away and never come back (but if they do come back, you might be able to identify whether there's a food to blame).
Feel better,
Sara
