Robin, soon you'll be the source of a lot of great ideas, because I can tell you love food. And btw, the good Portuguese food here is NOT in NYC - it's in Newark! I know that means crossing two rivers and paying a bunch of tolls for you, but... keep that in mind next time you're facing a linguica shortage.
Believe it or not, although that 101cookbooks site is full of dairy & gluten - I've gotten a ton of fine suggestions from it. And I found it totally by accident. I am so grateful there was no World Wide Web when I was in college... I'd still be sitting there trying to remember how I wandered down that interesting path of link after link, and learned all kinds of things that had nothing to do with the topic at hand...
Bon appetit!
(And dinner tonight is catch-as-catch-can... you want to invite yourself over TOMORROW - gonna make duck liver pate, and - really after that, who cares??)

Hey Sara,
There are some great Portuguese store here on Long Island in Mineola. They make all of there sausage from scratch and one of the places I use I just call him
now and tell him what I want and the next day its ready.
My husbands company is based out of Newark so he is there at least once a week and once a month he takes me in to my favorite restaurant Fernandes Steak House. Its worth the trip!
My husband eats to stay alive! I eat because I love all kinds of food not very picky! I also love to cook, its my way of being creative. When my children were growing up there friends always wanted to come here for dinner, I cooked every night. There was never (or very rarely) take out.
Duck liver pate? OK give me the recipe! I not a great fan of goose liver pate (foie gras), but all the recipes I have from years ago have bourbon or sherry in it and I don't think I can have that.
I made venison steaks tonight on the grill, they were pretty good! Tomorrow I am making rabbit stew!? Not sure about this one but it worth a shot!
Take care
Love
