Have been absent for a couple of days due to not really being able to type. On Sunday I had a selacious cyst under my arm that was the size of a pea and there for a couple of years decide to be a really bad guy. Within a couple of hours it exploded to the size of a golf ball and then by Monday morning when I got to the doctors it had become extremely red and the size of a lemon. Apparently it had somehow "burst" and absessed and she had to do a real job on it as out-patient surgery. I am now left with a quarter size hole under my arm that is about 3/4" deep and will see her today to remove the packing and stitches. Will get the result of the culture and hopefully will just heal from there. An armpit sucks for a place to have surgery.
Glad to be back and will try to catch up on messages.
Love, Maggie

Thanks Everyone. Yes an extremely tender spot and the needles to drain it were quite uncomfortable. Leave it to my body.
Polly - yes I am taking antibiotics - Cephalexin 500 mg. 3 times a day. Needless to say, I am taking probiotics along with it. This has been a heck of a year on the antibiotics for me but so far so good as long as I take the probiotics.
I too had never heard of a cyst doing that but the doctor said it might have become infected - I asked from what if it was inside and fine for 2+ years. Really no answer other than I have a very fickle body. Then she started talking to me about a colonoscopy because I am due. Gues what that answer was. Do the cyst and back burner the other for a lifetime.

You know, they are now saying that routine colonoscopies are not needed after age 75. So, we have something to look forward to - but maybe not for us, since we already have a colon disease that needs following. Sigh.
Mags, you certainly are the queen of "unique" medical problems!
Love,
Polly
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
Bummer! The only good thing about it that I can think if is the fact that it is now history. I hope you recover quickly, and without any complications. I have to agree with Polly that you seem to be the "poster child" for unusual medical issues.
Love,
Tex
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Ouch, Maggie! I had this same thing happen to me about 20 years ago. Fortunately, mine was only the size of a large walnut. BUT, they had to cut it open there in the doctor's office without novacain and it was full of pus. I sure hope you recover quickly. We miss you when you're not online.
Ouch and YIKES, Maggie - thanks for letting us know, and here's wishing you a speedy and uneventful recovery. And no other 'unusual' medical problems, painful or otherwise, for a long time!
