How Well Do Consumers Follow USDA Food Guidelines?

Post by tex »

Well, according to this study, not very well - only about 2% of the time. And in order to get that 2% compliance, the researchers had to accept days in which consumers were at least 70% compliant with the guidelines. That's pretty sad.

I have no idea if that means that consumers are dumber than USDA thinks they are, or whether they are actually smarter than what USDA gives them credit for, but obviously, USDA doesn't "get it", based on the success of their "My Plate" program, because precious few people are adhering to it.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Well,

Though I'm pretty ornery and not easily brought into compliance, generally, I'd eat a lot more like their ideas, if they had any good ones

My compliance with what *I* call a healthy diet is well above 90% - most days above 99%. (I am calling wine and GF/SF/DF dark chocolate healthy, in the interest of full disclosure...)

Love,
Sara
