Dr. Oz's Antidiarrhea Drink
Has anyone tried this, and does it work?
1 cup coconut water
1/4 cup orange juice
pinch of salt
That's it! Would be wonderful if something so simple worked, but being not a fan of coconut water, I really don't want to try it, but would, if I knew it would help.
Has anyone tried this?
Thanks.

Garina, I found coconut water helpful, but not D-stopping, when first reacting. The very idea of OJ makes me shudder - I would use something less distressing, if you're inclined to try it.
Some coconut water is better than others - you might try another brand.
What that blend would be good for IMO is not stopping D, but preventing dehydration when D is occurring. I've used blends like that, long before MC, when I'm working physically hard in fierce heat, and it serves the same purpose in those circumstances.

Sara,
Yes, I am very hesitant about using orange juice, as I haven't had oranges or any other citrus, and certainly not orange juice, for a very long time. I will again try Coconut Water, but plain. I don't know why his recipe calls for salt???
Lesley,
Where do you get your electrolyte enriched water? What a good idea, especially, since we have to replace what we've lost constantly. I eat tons of bananas, potato chips, as a replacement, but the water would be better.

The salt is amazing if you're dehydrated in a certain way. They say you don't need to replace sodium (Lesley's situation is unusual), but I have found a tiny pinch of salt to be amazingly helpful.
I think you could make a fabulous drink with coconut water blended with a banana, and maybe something else you like. I think your potato chips have you covered in the salt department - they sure do it for me!
Be well,

Garina,
I don't like coconut water either, but found one that is great. The brand is Vita Coco. I get the pineapple flavor, but they have others. Not acidic. When I was really flaring I would drink a big glass every day. The first GI doc I went to suggested it. I still have a glass every morning.

Sara,
I will try your idea of mixing in a banana with the coconut water. That actually sounds good. Thanks.
Nancy,
Thanks for letting me know about the Vita Coco brand. Pineapple is a good option for me. I will check Vitacost, which is where I usually order online. Also, iherb.
Thanks very much.

What a great idea! I can use up my coconut water like this and boost my electrolytes at the same time.I think you could make a fabulous drink with coconut water blended with a banana, and maybe something else you like
Garina, I get it at Trader Joe's. I managed to almost balance my electrolytes by drinking only that.
As for sodium - it is very, very important. I have suffered from low sodium for years. (I forgot to ask the doc to add an electrolyte test to my mast cell test today!) It's not fun. Sodium balances the fluid and chemical balance of your body cells through osmosis.
When you are dehydrated the first thing they do is put you on a saline (salt) IV to replace the salts you have lost.
