Pepcid and entocort.
What did you think of the GI's reasoning about pepcid? And, given the C, should I go down to 3 mgs daily of entocort?
Tex, question..

Well, what he said about pepcid not being a PPI is correct, in that even though it works similarly to the way that the PPIs work, (by modifying the ability of the parietal cells in the lining of the stomach to produce gastric acid), the mechanism by which H2-receptor antagonists work, is not exactly the same as the PPIs. They have a much weaker effect than the PPIs.
Incidentally, while we're on the subject, I just became aware of this warning about PPIs. It appears that the FDA issued this warning about a year and a half ago, (on May 25, 2010), but obviously, most doctors have been totally ignoring it:

I don't recall how much you're taking now, but if I were in that situation, I would probably reduce the dosage by 3 mgs, and see what effect that has. The problem is, unless you are especially sensitive to budesonide, you haven't been taking it long enough to to provide any significant residual level, and reducing the dosage drastically, too soon, may eliminate it's benefits altogether. On the other hand, if you've been taking only 6 mg, or you feel that that you've been taking way too much, then yes, reducing to 3 mg per day might be a reasonable choice. IOW, it's hard to say, in advance, at this early stage of the game.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I took PPIs for YEARS! I might have gone OFF them for 14 days in a one year period.
I feel like shooting someone. Doctors make me sick in more ways than one!
So should I take them and stop with all the sugar? Which is worse?
I'm taking 6 mgs. Should I go on with that for a while? Since I have C I don't know if gurgling, bloating, exhaustion etc mean that I am STILL in a flare. I haven't managed to get out of it yet?
I am so confused since I don't have the same symptoms as everone else. Trust me to be different *grumble grumble*.

I would try them and do whatever seems to work best. An added benefit for the Pepsid, is that it will help to control any mast cell reactions that might be present. Of course, if you don't have any mast cell issues, then that's irrelevant.Lesley wrote:So should I take them and stop with all the sugar? Which is worse?
If you're only taking 6 mg now, then I would reduce the dosage to 3 mg, and see how that works. If you seem to lose the ground that you seemed to gain last time around, then you may need to increase the dosage again.

Trust me to do that!sailing in uncharted waters
I think I am having a reaction to palm oil shortening. Gurgle, gurgle going on. It's delicious, but I don't think it agrees with me.

I'll get some and try it tomorrow.
Thanks Tex! I wanted your input.
