We're leaving early tomorrow morning for Utah. My daughter says the inversion layer is pretty bad right now. Snow usually clears it up, but no snow is in sight. Now I'm nervous about the pneumonia again. (For those who are new to the board, I've gotten pneumonia for the last two years after visiting my daughter in the winter.) I'm going to use my inhaler tonight and tomorrow. I'll put some vaseline in my nose before the flight.
I just sent DH out for some Ocean Saline Nasal Spray. I also have a facial mask that I'll wear on the plane. I don't need to eat during the flight, so I should be able to leave it on. DD and her hubby have both had a cold this past week.
I've upped my vitamin D to 6,000 IUs per day. I had some airborne at home - I need to look at it, too. I'm hoping that the pneumonia vaccine booster will help, too.
I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there. I hope you all have a great holiday season. I'll read and post when I can.
Love,
Gloria
You never know what you can do until you have to do it.
Have a wonderful visit. I am keeping fingers and toes crossed for a healthy trip this time. That extra vitamin D should help a lot. A word to the wise- be careful with the vaseline - you don't want to aspirate even a tiny bit of it into your lungs - petroleum can cause a wicked pneumonia by itself.
I saw a post not long ago where you asked about my brother. Basically, things are not going well - the cancer has returned (not unusual for pancreatic cancer) and is thought to be incurable now. The good news is that he has no pain at present. I am guessing that hospice is not too far away. Sigh. Thanks so much for your concern.
Hugs,
Polly
P.S. I am wondering if the Neil-Med nasal irrigation procedure might more helpful than the saline spray on your trip? You can wash out pollutants/infectious organisms from your nose/sinuses several times a day before they have a chance to cause inflammation. It costs about 10-12 dollars and is well worth it.
Blessed are they who can laugh at themselves, for they shall never cease to be amused.
FWIW, I second Polly's suggestions - irrigation is generally safer and far more effective than nasal coatings or sprays.
I hope everything goes well on your trip.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Gloria, The inversion has been wicked the past 2 weeks-dreary gray days with no sun. We're waiting for that Christmas snow to come in and clear it out. I hope it doesn't affect you and you can enjoy your Christmas with your family. Love JoAnn

Gloria - wishing you a wonderful Christmas holiday with your family. With all your preparations for the trip, hopefully you've stacked the odds in your favor, and will be able to stay healthy .
Polly - I'm so sorry to hear about your brother taking a turn for the worse. It's tough to be so helpless when nature takes charge. Wish there were words that could be said to lessen the pain .
