Weaning off Entocort

Post by Lesley »

I can't take the C anymore. I want to wean off entocort and see what happens. How slowly do I have to do it? Can I go down to 3 mgs (from 6mgs) a day all at once?

Hi Lesley,

If you had been on it for at least 6 months to a year or more, it would matter, but as little as you have taken, you can safely stop it cold turkey, any time you want, so you can either taper the dose, or just stop it now - there shouldn't be any risk of any withdrawal symptoms. Entocort, (budesonide), is far safer than the other corticosteroids, as far as discontinuing taking it, is concerned.

Sorry it didn't work out - I thought it might be worth a try. :sigh:

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

I do think it was good for the inflammation. And the pain in other parts of my body. But I am taking, literally, a TON of stuff to get a BM, the GERD is worse with C (or maybe it just seems so to me), and the bloating and cramps are becoming unbearable.
Hopefully, if I wean down and get to just a little daily I can get my bowels going and get something resembling a Norman.
Hope, as I always say, springs eternal.
