And we wonder why we have digestive problems. Don't mess with mother nature. Monsanto has literally destroyed corn and wheat worldwide and they have the balls to sue farmers whose crops they have invaded. Wouldn't even know where to start on a diatribe here.

Ah yes... Monsanto.

Some scientists fear it could already be too late to prevent the rise of resistance, in large part because of the way some farmers have been planting the crop.

They point to two factors: farmers who have abandoned crop rotation and others have neglected to plant non-Bt corn within Bt fields or in surrounding fields as a way to create a "refuge" for non-resistant rootworms in the hope they will mate with resistant rootworms and dilute their genes.

Experts worry that the actions of a few farmers could jeopardize an innovation that has significantly reduced pesticide use and saved growers billions of dollars in lost yields and chemical-control costs.

Blame it on the farmers?

Good point. Here in Texas, (and probably most of the South), the southern corn rootworm has adapted to sorghum, wheat, and virtually any other crop, so that crop rotation no longer works - they just keep on proliferating in the alternative crops. In some areas here, we can't even grow a garden some years, because the southern corn rootworm will pretty much ruin anything but okra.

With the ocean's increasing acidification, the fish best suited to that environment is the jellyfish. YUK. Can you imagine a meal of jellyfish and okra?

Can you imagine a meal of jellyfish and okra?

Polly, that is the most disgusting image! Makes having MC comfortable by comparison. Add to that meal cockroaches and it's just perfect!

Lesley, when my son was about 5 and we were living in Indonesia, he came home and said he didn't need any lunch; he had already eaten at the neighbors' house. I asked him what he had. He said "Cockroaches." I checked with the neighbors. They had given him snails. But it wasn't surprising that he got mixed up because the words for cockroach and snail differ by only one letter. And he was really familiar with cockroaches! The astonishing thing is that he ate them when he thought they were cockroaches!!

Hey all,

On my way into town each morning I'm blessed to drive 10 miles of cornfields and farmlands... Folks here rotate crops. They are doing their best, my guess is. I know all of them but they don't talk about farming. Conversations now are about ice fishing.

I love snails. Which is strange seeing I hate other slimy stuff. But then, snails are not slimy. You eat the muscle, just like any other meat.

Joan - if we ever go out together you can have the okra. I won't fight you!

And even if the weather is awful today I would rather be here than where there is snow and ice. The whole last fortnight was glorious. It will come back soon. I'll think of you when I am in the pool!

I guess Monsanto hasn't found a way to genetically modify the fish yet, unless they're the ones who are hard at work on the genetic modification of salmon, which has been a huge controversy. I'm sure their little punkin' heads are hard at hiring scientists to do their bidding.

You really have to wonder what these people are thinking that their children will inherit from their "hard work"..........yeah, we could go on and on, Joanna...you're likely friends with my cousins.

Lots of my relatives died ice fishing there on the lakes.
