Under attack!

Post by Lesley »

Something must have had trace amounts of gluten or something else. Meds? Nothing new.
The lady from whom I got my bread recipe says the millet flour from WF has tested with traces of gluten, so it might be the bread I made.

It's amazing how fast I react, and how long it takes me to get back even to my regular level of illness. It gives me a source for comparison between D & C. I don't know which is worse. When I have the C badly I am convinced the D couldn't be worse, but today I am wishing for the C to come back (which it will pretty soon I suspect).
I hurt all over, head down.

The weather is perfect, but no pool for me today.

I'm sorry, Lesley. You sure do have a hard case of MC.

Very sorry, Lesley. It sounds like you really do react quickly to gluten! I hope this levels out for you real soon.

Leslie,
It may be that you are intolerant to millet, though millet is closely related to sorghum, and you're able to eat bread made with sorghum, aren't you? The easiest way to test an individual flour is to eat it as a cereal first, just as you've done with oats. Arrowhead Mills makes a millet cereal, but I don't think they label the package as "gluten-free."

Thanks guys. I seem to react all the time. Can't get it under control.

Gloria - I seemed to be tolerating millet, but I read that the millet WF sells has tested for gluten lately. This is a new bag. I have a horrible feeling I got glutened through that. I didn't add anything new.

I don't know if I can substitute teff for millet in the bread. I am waiting for Karina, who is terrific, to answer me about the flours. Not that I can eat much of anything right now, though empty is worse than full re: GERD.

I'm also considering using teff or montina. I think they're both high in fiber, though. My track record isn't very good with GF flours. Corn is the only grain I can eat. I'm suspecting I'm bothered by almond flour. I don't know what I could eat if I eliminated it.

Let me know if you have success with teff.

I'm sorry Gloria. I haven't been at this as long as you, but I so understand what this sort of limitation means. I know I can't eat almonds, but I think if potatoes were taken away I would truly have nothing to eat. I miss sweet potatoes so much. I ate them almost daily before MC.

You may want to just bite the bullet and eliminate all grains from your diet. I did that for a long time, and now I can tolerate a little corn (like corn starch in BBQ sauce), and a little rice, like in a small serving of baked goods.

I think I might get to that. My diet is so limited right now that the few foods I have been able to tolerate have kept me going. The grains actually seemed to soothe the GERD, but if they are setting off D it's not worth is.

Thanks Marliss!
