MY INTESTINES! Yes,watch in horror as my bowels are cut open

Post by Stanz »

Found a link to this video in my researching yesterday, thought some of you might find it fascinating.

This was obviously shot by an amateur so be patient, the first few minutes are mostly of the OR floor.

Whoa! That is fascinating! The good part starts at 1:32. I wasn't aware of all the connective tissue involved. For some reason I expected the intestines to be just a long tube like sausage without all the connective tissue.

I wonder if it would be possible to do that surgery today laparoscopically?

Me too, Gabby, which makes it even more interesting for me on a personal level, as when I had an intestinal blockage my surgeon told me that there was scar tissue that had completely kinked off the edge of a loop, that must have been one easily visible piece of scar tissue.

You learn something every day - I should have realized this after seeing the pictures of my DH's recent hernias.

So that's what happened to me  Although I was lucky they were able to do the surgery through 3 small incisions and one larger one.

It was a laparoscopic procedure as described in this article

The procedure in the video was a fully open field surgery.

It's no wonder it hurt though LOL

Thanks Stanz for posting that link, it's actually interesting...I think

I've always been morbidly fascinated by this kind of stuff, Joe, not sure if that's good or bad

Interesting to say the least. I expected it to look much differently also.

Thanks, Shirley
