Old member checking in

Post by Lucy »

Hi all,
Time got away from me, so now I'm waaaay behind on how all my old friends here are getting along here.
Please post a summary to let me know how you've been doing in recent months.

I'm still working on my mother's old house, taking care of business, and trying to get ready for an eventual
move to GA...at least for a few years.

Do any of you happen to live in the Atlanta area, by the way? Also, anyone new to me live in Houston?

Hope that all of you will have a 2012 free of symptoms of MC. I am so fortunate to continue to be free
of symptoms for so many years now. Just wish my good fortune was contagious. I'd spread it to all of you!

Eager to hear from each of you!
Yours, Luce

Hi Lucy,

You may not remember me, but I certainly remember you. You were the only one who was still posting on the old board when I first had MC. I appreciated that you continued to post there. I finally found a post directing me here.

I can't believe that you will be moving to Atlanta. That's quite a ways from Houston. We do have several new members from Texas. Tex will have to tell you whether they are close to Houston. I believe Joan (JLH) lives near Atlanta. There may be others, but I can't remember them offhand.

It's nice to hear from you again, and good to read that you are doing well.

Hi Lucy,
I'm surprised to hear you are planning a move to the Atlanta area. I grew up in Buford, Ga which is NE of Atlanta off I85. My sister still lives in Ga. South of Atlanta but near. I have other relatives in the Buford area. I have no idea when I might be back in the area. Depends on Mom, I guess. It's difficult to travel with her.

Keep us up to date when you can. Love to hear from you.

Hi Luce,

We have quite a few new members from northern areas of Texas, but I don't recall any being from Houston - of course I wouldn't trust my memory any farther than I could throw it. I believe that we have one or two other members from the Atlanta area, but they haven't posted in quite a while.

As far as updates are concerned, I'm not sure how long it's been since you last posted, but in the last 2 or 3 years I've had a couple of TIAs, and I've been decoloned, (none of it related to MC, of course), otherwise, things have been going pretty smoothly - can't complain.

I my self just checked back in after months od being away~Had MC in remission (which I will again) until a lot of stress has come into my life, but am working on that. Have moved from our land in Texas to Arizona recently to my sons home~My husband has brain cancer
and I needed some support and help. I have started over with eating, I am soooo careful of what goes in my mouth, This is a temporary set back and will get it back in remission. Good with contnued health,

Hi Lucy,
Wonderful to hear you are in long-term remission. Just curious, are you still avoiding all the foods listed in your Potty People profile?

Hi!
It's sooo good to hear from so many of my old friends here. You all have meant so much to me over the years.
It's hard to believe we've known each other for so long now, isn't it?
It sounds as though some of you have endured and are enduring LOTS of physical and emotional difficulties.
I am so sorry to hear that.

Yes, I'm still strict about the allergens in my diet, but have gotten lax about other aspects of healthy eating.
It's amazing how one can stay strict with all these allergens, and still find a way to eat junk or eat too much! Ha!

By the way, I was exercising everyday up until right before Christmas, but a longer stay in GA during that time got me off track and I've not gotten back to exercising. I was at an ideal weight a couple of years ago, but have slipped on portions from around the time my mother passed away, so now, I need to get serious again about portion control, well-rounded meals and avoidance of junk, as well as getting back into exercise.

Part of the reason I've not gotten back to exercising is that going to the gym tends to break up my day and put me behind in getting things accomplished here. I still have lots to do before I can move.

Well, I have been on the Buford Highway...does that count, Shirley? I had lunch in Marietta the first week in January. It's on I-85, I think.

I'm thinking about moving to the Alpharetta/Roswell area, but have considered Marietta over in Cobb. As you may know, Roswell is in more than one county. It's in Fulton Co. but also in Cobb Co. Strange to see even a zip code overlap two counties like one of them does.

By the way, have you ever been to Canton St in Roswell?

In Dec. of 2010, I ran into a large group of Celiac support group members from that area at an Outback there.
It was snowing heavily that day, but no problem driving while I was there. Soon after I left they got frozen in for about a week in Jan of 2011. Do you remember hearing about that? I always seem to arrive with an improvement in the weather there when I'm in town, except for some occasional rains, but they can use the rain.
Other times, it's been very cold...this winter, very warm, but nothing really bad. Anyway, I think I'll enjoy the four seasons there, particularly since the weather there is still fairly mild compared to other places. For sure we'll have to get together there one of these days.

Beth, looks like you're it as far as the Houston area. Think there's a meeting of the celiac group in February, isn't there? Half the time I forget until I've missed it. It would be fun to try to meet you there if we both can go that day. What do you think?

And to you bird lovers, I saw some beautiful backyard birds in GA at a feeder in January. I will get a feeder for my new yard before I buy a bed when I move!!! It was sooo fascinating how active that feeder was!

Well, Tex, I see you're continuing to do a great job here. I'm not a bit surprized!

Would love to talk face to face with each of you, but in the meantime, it's nice to have the internet to keep up.

Thanks for responding and all the kind words.
Love, nancy

Luce!!!

So good to hear from you and to know that you are doing well.

I haven't been posting much as I am now helping to take care of my brother, who has terminal pancreatic cancer and is on home hospice. He probably has only a few weeks left, I am guessing. I didn't see much of him during the last 44 years, because he lived in CA. After diagnosis 7 mos. ago he moved back "home" to MD. It has been good to spend quality time together again. My other brother lives on the eastern shore of MD, so the three of us have been taking advantage of the opportunity to "catch up".

Interesting about your plans for a move. Good luck with all of the details.

Love,

Polly

LOL You were fairly close. Buford Highway is Route 23 and it goes right by Buford... in fact Buford has grown so much since I was growing up that it has spread right across the Highway and kept on going. I don't like it there anymore. Too much traffic.... Too many people. Lots of people thrive on that but I'm not one of them.

I had an Aunt and Uncle who lived in Marietta so I've probably been there more than the others. I can't even remember now the way to get to their house. In fact it probably wouldn't do me any good if I did since they have changed things so much since then. HaHa

Yes, I remember the big freeze in Atlanta last Jan. It was all over the news. I think the problem was snow and then ice. It rarely snowed there when I was growing up but we did have some bad ice storms which paralyzed all traffic. You just had to wait for it to melt enough to get some traction since the Highway Dept. wasn't equipped to deal with slippery roads. I don't remember the ice lasting so long when I was young. No more than several hours. Certainly not days.

I truly hope you will enjoy your new place. Georgia is beautiful in the Spring with all the Azalea's, Dogwood's, etc. Good Luck with everything. If you send me your new phone number, I'll try to get in touch whenever I'm there. I have no idea when that might be. It's hard on Mom to travel. I'm pretty well stuck here.

Great to hear from you.

Hi Polly,
This has got to be the hardest thing you've been facing. It's just unfortunate that it took something so sad to give you
the precious time you and both of your brothers have had to be together "back home."

Have the hospice people been able to adequately control your brother's pain?
Your brother is so fortunate to have a sister like you.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Keep in touch.

Love, Luce
