Zizzle....you made me laugh! Its so true! When I go into Manhattan everybody always says that they have the safest water in the world but when I ask where it comes from they say the Hudson River!!! Now anyone who knows the City and knows the Hudson River they will laugh at this too. I would never go near the Hudson River! It would take your skin off, it looks like the Locknest Monster lives in it! So why would I drink it! Most of my friends who live in the city do have filtration systems, the ones who don't I will go thirsty before I drank from the tap!
Robin,
Actually, New York City does have probably the BEST water on the east coast. It does not get its water from the polluted Hudson River - less wealthy New York State residents get that
. My husband grew up near the reservoir in the Catskill mountains that feeds NYC. It's in a beautifully undisturbed area and has lots of security now. They are very protective of their reservoir. Sadly, the towns surrounding the reservoir get less desirable water from sources further upstate, which may soon be victims of natural gas fracking in the shale rock.

I have well water and it has alwasy been the best water I've ever tasted. It's a little strange because people living nearby don't have water that good (also well water). It has been tested and it is fine. I've lived in Western Pa, Ohio, Florida & Ga.... Visited a San Diego suburb and various other places and the water always seems substandard to me. My husband thought the same. We've had people come to visit and bring gallon jugs to take water home with them.
My concern, as Zizzle mentioned, is that natural gas fracking might ruin it.

I have a three stage reverse osmosis system in my kitchen and wouldn't be without it. I take my water to work since I can't stomach what's there which can cause debate since I work in the same office that houses our municipal water utility. We're supposed to brag about how good our water is...... actually it is good compared to other places I've tasted but I never realized how much extra "stuff" is in municipal water. The Public Service Commission mandates that an annual water quality report be published, everything is listed there.
My husband sweeps the streets in the Village where we live and he had no problem installing our system once he noticed that there was a purple tinge to tank of the sweeper caused by the chemicals that the Village uses to treat the water. It made us think that if there's a stained residue there, what are we ingesting and how might it be effecting our health?
