Between my recent bone density test and the last article you posted about PPI's...... I'm going to try and get off Nexium (again). I did get off Prilosec once but after a while (2 or 3 years) ended up with Barrett's E. so back on Nexium I went.
Today I visited the neighborhood pharmacy that helped me before and figured out what I needed. I just hope it works again but now I'm afraid I'll be on that for life becuase I don't want to end up with the Barretts evolving into cancer. I think I have another endoscopy to check on that next year so that should be a good indicator. If I can't get the symptoms under control this time though, I don't know if I'll make it.
The first thing is Rhizinate Chew two twenty minutes before eating and one to two anytime symptoms occur. I can't remember if I'm supposed to do this for 2 weeks or a month but I guess I'll see how I feel. After that start digestive enzymes. I know this is because my system needs to have time to "repair" itself (if it is even able). If it keeps the Barretts away, I'm willing to stay on it for life. Without it I'm on Nexium for life.
The rhizinate tastes really, really bad if memory serves. I'm sure I won't stay on that any longer than I think necessary. HaHa
Don't know if anyone else here has tried this method. Like I said, I had to visit the pharmacy to really remember what I took before.
Leslie, Have you ever tried something like the Rhizinate before? It is deglycyrrhizinated licorice. (I checked spelling) If not it might be something you could try but I warn you it does NOT taste good.
Tex, just wanted you know that the PPI article was the deciding item.

Well, I apologize. I didn't mean to cause any extra any problems.
I hope it works. I didn't even realize there was a special treatment regimen based on that product.
Love,
Tex

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
Hi Sheila,
The GI wouldn't even test me for Barrett's. As Tex says "of it quack's like a duck...".
The GI says the endoscopies I have had didn't show it, but the last one was over a year ago. Just as the MC developed sort of overnight, maybe Barrett's did too.
It hurts horribly. I do NOT want to develop cancer!
Connie suggested it to me, and I figured I might as well try it. I am going to get it today. I'll try anything that helps this awful pain without going back to PPIs .
Thanks Connie.

LOL, you know you haven't caused any extra problems. Just motivated me to try and do something about one of them.
I don't know that what I'm going to do is a special treatment regimen. I did have a consultation a long time ago with the pharmacist/owner of the place and that's what he suggested. He is probably a bit like you... self taught... believes in "natural" as much as possible. I don't know how he came up with that particular suggestion. I just know it worked once. If I had continued, perhaps I wouldn't have ended up with Barrett's. I don't know.
Thank you for that nudge. I really want to get off the Nexium.
