Lymphocytic colitis and duodenosis are cited as paraneoplastic manifestations of some primary tumours particularly a certain type of Lung Cancer: small cell cancer. Thymus tumours such as a thymoma also cause lots of lymphocytes to be seen in the intestinal tract due to the immune system being switched on to attacking the tumour but also attacking certain cells in the gut that partially mimic the tumour cells.

The lymphocytes and immune cells often attack the nerves and muscle layers, the myenteric plexus of the intestines and cause severe dysmotility and psuedo-obstruction.
