What time does everyone get to bed?

Post by desertrat »

Does it make a difference in what time you go to bed? I have heard/read somewhere that most people should be in bed or asleep by ten o'clock each night. Something to do with your the sleep rhythm, I think. So, how many here go to bed at a decent hour and how much sleep do you need/get in order to feel rested?

I can exist OK on 5 hours if necessary. 8 hours is heavenly. I don't have a set time to go to bed. I was a night owl in my younger years, then became an early bird (probably after MC moved in) but am getting later now in the last few months. When Spring gets here I'll probably go earlier again because I'll be more active.

I know you wanted times... but I don't pay much attention to the time.

I find that if I get to bed about tenish, (10 to 11), I fall asleep faster, and get a better night's rest. If I don't get to bed until 1 or 2 am, it takes me longer to get to sleep, and I wake up several times during the night, and have a tough time getting back to sleep.

Pre-MC, I slept for about 8 hours. I usually went to bed about 8 to 9, and got up at 4 to 5. When the disease was active, I rarely got any decent sleep, so I was tired all day, and sometimes had to take a nap. As I got my symptoms under control, I found that I needed less sleep. All I need now, is around 5 to 6 hours of quality sleep, but I can function pretty well on around 4 hours or so, for many nights in a row, if necessary, especially if I take a short powernap for about 10 minutes, between lunch and mid-afternoon.

A couple of times last fall, when I was having breathing problems because of thyroid issues, I stayed awake all night, and surprisingly, I was able to function pretty much normally the next day, each time, and didn't even feel the need to take a nap. I couldn't have done that when I was younger - I would have had to have some sleep, at least a nap for an hour or so.

After about the age of 50 or so, I began to have trouble getting to sleep. So, while as a young woman I was usually in bed by 9:30, now I aim for 10, then read a while until I feel sleepy.

I'd love to get 8 hours, and feel really good when I do, but I average 7, sometimes less.

Hi Mandy. As long as i think I'm done with the bathroom for the evening, I'm usually in bed between 10 and 11 and asleep by 11:30 ( because I read). I get up around 7 ( unless I get up earlier to run to the bathroom)

Hi Mandy,

I am sure I am the exception since I usually go to bed at 8 PM since I start work at 6 AM in the morning. Every day, including weekends, up no later than 4 AM. There are nights that I just can't sleep and it might be 1 AM.

I go to bed at 11 and read until I feel sleepy. Once a week or so I have insomnia and so I get up and clean my closets & drawers until 2 or 3 am. If I get too much sleep then the next night I will wake several times during the night. Ideal for me is: 7 hours

I am in bed between 9:30 to 10:00, and am sleeping by 10:30 or 11:00. I wake up about 7am. I seem to need 7 to 9 hours of sleep.

I try to get to bed by 8:30 and take my IPad with me to read for about an hour. It's nice now that my youngest is turning 18 this year as there are no small children to attend to. I get up at 4:15 every weekday and seem to do on my 6ish hours of sleep. What I find interesting is that on the weekends if I stay up late I will almost always need a two hour nap in the afternoon. I certainly am a creature of habit. :???:

I am usually in bed by 8:30 or 9pm and read for up to an hour. I need 8 hours of sleep. I sleep more than that now many times with the MC. I find the colitis is wearing me out and I have to take a nap at noon sometimes (like today).

I'm in bed by 10 p.m. most nights and used to be up at about 7. I adopted a year-old miniature dachshund last week who isn't housebroken so now I'm up by about 6 a.m. to get Rosie outside. I need more sleep as I've gotten older.

I'm in bed at 9 PM like clockwork every night. 9:30 & 10 PM is late for me. I'm up at 5 AM on weekdays and 5-6 AM on weekends. I feel like I take the fun out of things often but that's just how I am. I've always been that way. My cats tend to paw me in the face at 4 AM but I do know that I need my sleep. 9 hours is my comfort zone.

While on prednisone, sleep was very difficult and I felt like a zombie for a few months straight. I still do not wake feeling rested but hopefully that will come as I heal. I have a pair of earplugs in each pocket of my PJs because about 2-3 AM every morning I wake up and can't get back to sleep because of my husband's snoring.
