hair/DNA intolerance test

Post by Leah »

Hi All. I know that a few of you said that this test was probably not worth my time, but I was too curious. This was the test done on " testyourintolerance.com". You send a hair sample for them in Enland to analyze. You get a report of both food and non-food intolerances and I also paid an extra $10 to know what nutrients I'm low in.
Although I already ordered the kit from Enterolab, these results have given me a starting point until I get those results in about a month.
Curious? SOME of the food items are Tuna, Lamb, sheep's whey, milk fat and milk powder, frisee lettuce, POTATO,pecans, cherry, plum, coffee, and black tea. I'm low on Bromelain.
Some of these surprise me and some don't. Funny, wheat didn't show up, but I am still going gluten free until I hear from Enterolab, but I will also stop with potatoes for now . Add Bromelain.
Ok, just thought some of you would find this interesting.
Question: Can potato cause inflammation or is it just an irritant?

Only proteins can trigger an immune-system reaction, (with one or two very rare exceptions). Nightshades contain alkaloids which can cause other types of problems - potatoes, for example, can contain the alkaloid, solanine, especially if they're not stored properly, (out of the light).

Well, if one happens to get a large enough dose of solanine, it can cause symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, burning in the throat, heart rhythm irregularities, headache. In more severe cases, it can cause hallucinations, loss of feeling, paralysis, fever, jaundice, dilated pupils, chills, and a large enough dose can be fatal.

In small doses, the nightshades tend to cause rheumatoid arthritis symptoms, (in people who are very sensitive to them).

I would be curious to know what type of intolerance they are testing for--in other words, what type of antibodies you're producing. As far as the potatoes go, most people who react to one nightshade react to all of them because they're actually reacting to the alkaloids in them. However, if you're truly intolerant of the protein in potatoes, as I am, you might not have a problem with other nightshades. I can eat tomatoes and peppers with no problem, but white potatoes (even thoroughly peeled before cooking) give me violent digestive issues.
