Is anyone surprised that they declined to ban bisphenol A? Once again, the FDA is telling us that what is bad for us is perfectly safe, because there's not enough evidence to substantiate the claims that it is dangerous, (IOW, they haven't seen enough fatalities to convince them). The real reason is almost surely connected with the fact that BPA is now an 8 billion dollar industry, and the container industry would lose a lot of money, if the chemical were banned.
Sarah Janssen, a senior scientist at the NRDC, said the FDA’s denial of a ban shows “a major overhaul” of chemical regulation is needed. The Environmental Working Group, a Washington-based advocacy group, said consumers can no longer trust the FDA to protect the health of their families.
“The agency has veered dangerously off course,” Jane Houlihan, the group’s senior vice president for research, said today in a statement. “Pregnant women and new parents should no longer think FDA has their backs.”
It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.
I always look kind of yuppie carrying around my metal water bottle but the first several years in FL I had a plastic water bottle....the heat.....you could taste the plastic in the water....yeck! Brandy
I switched to all Pyrex for food storage and my lunch containers about 2 years ago, after readng the articles about BPA and all of the hormonal issues that are caused by consuming even miniscule amounts of it. Several studies have linked BPA to weight gain.
And some analysts worry that the administration’s increased engagement could erode the F.D.A.’s reputation for regulatory thoroughness and integrity.
Now why did that comment strike me as humorous?
