Reason to be hopeful

Post by JFR »

Eating strictly gf/df/ef/sf along with removing high histamine foods and a daily Allegra has been really helpful. Not exactly normal but so much better. I even made it to my dental appointment Thursday morning, something I didn't think I was going to be able to do a week ago since I could hardly leave the bathroom. I am really beginning to believe that mast cells are a huge issue for me. All kinds of weird symptoms that have plagued me for a while now make more sense. Something I have noticed over the years is that doctors have selective hearing, only considering things that fit into their particular perspective and ignoring everything else. I guess all our minds tend to work this way but it would be nice to find a doctor who would at least try to listen and put it all together. A girl can dream.

That said, I am happy to have found you all and hopeful that through diet alone I can get this under control, and lead a more expansive life than the rather constrained one that has been forced on me over the years. I got my entero test on Friday and plan to send it back on Monday. I'm interested to see what it will say. I might never have found you all if things hadn't got so bad so maybe that was a gift rather than a curse. Otherwise I might just have continued to stumble along never feeling well but thinking there wasn't much I could do about it.

You're so right. If an issue doesn't agree with their training, it's off their radar, so they just ignore it. If only the rest of us could ignore our problems that way.

Speaking of dentists, please be aware that some dentists, (or rather, dental hygienists), are still using teeth cleaning compounds that contain gluten. Gluten-free cleaning compounds are available, so if you're scheduled for a cleaning at some point in the future, it pays to discuss that issue ahead of time, in case they need to order a different product, because most of us do react to such compounds that contain gluten.

Good luck with the EnteroLab tests,
Tex

I will certainly check about gluten before my next teeth cleaning. This was just the removal of a temporary crown and the placement of a permanent one, so no harm done. Right now I am working on patience and discipline, necessary adjuncts to knowledge, at least in battling MC.

I definately have that marked on my calendar- my last visit caused me night time D. The only thing I could relate that flare to was my dentist visit and had no clue that gluten could even be an issue. I do now and am now willing to take the chance again.

So what if a dentist won't order GF cleaner? Do you just skip that part? or do the scrubbing without the cleaner? I can't imagine mine wouldn't accomodate me but one never knows.

I work for a dentist and all of our products are gf. Most of all the products out are. But I would definitely ask and wouldn't see why they wouldn't be able to order you something.

DebE,

Print out the article at the following link, (written by a dentist), and if you meet with any reluctance or resistance, whip out a copy, and present it to the dentist, or dental hygienist, and mention that getting sick as a dog, because of a doctor visit, leaves a lot to be desired, as far as doctor/patient relationships are concerned.
