Finally ordered my tests from Entero lab. I'm tired of trying to guess what I may be reacting to and not getting past this D.

Good for you, Nancy, 3 in my family have now been tested and even though it's often a bitter pill to swallow when you get your results, at least you have a roadmap to go by. Here's hoping you have few intolerances.

In 2006 I was tested there for gluten, casein, and the gene test too. I know I am celiac and no casein. I continue to have trouble so am getting a more extensive test this time. They didn't offer this test last time. I too hope I have few intolerances but I hope they can pinpoint something so I can get rid of any offenders :)

l-glutamine

Post by Leah »

Connie, I just bought some l-glutamine powder. How much do you take? The container says a tsp. (5 gm) twice a day. Is it okay to take if I am still on Entocort? It seems pretty safe.

Nancy, I hope you get some definitive answers from the test. Unfortunately, I sent away for test A and C and yeast, but the only thing I found out is that I am the one in 500 who don't produce IgA. Bummer for me. I'm going to have to figure it all out over time.

I've never heard of l-glutamine. What does it do? and what vitamins do you take Connie? Sorry Leah that your test was not helpful. Seems like a large expense for nothing then.

Nancy,

L-glutamine is a non-essential amino acid which is known to help heal damaged muscle tissue. It's widely used by body-builders, after workouts, and it's recommended as an aid to healing for certain GI issues, such as inflammatory bowel disease.

It is suspected that some of the hardest material known to science can be found in the skulls of GI specialists who insist that diet has nothing to do with the treatment of microscopic colitis.

Nancy and Leah,

I mixed up 2 rounded tsp./3 times a day of the L-G. I didn't take the Loperamide for very long, as I recall, but at no time do I remember being constipated, just didn't think I needed it. I can't imagine it being contraindicated for use with Entocort. It's pretty tasteless, just kind of gritty, but it had an immediately soothing effect for me, and maybe that was psychological, I don't know, but when I'm in a bit of a flare, as I am now, it still feels calming.

Hi Leah,

Yes I took L Glutamine while on Entocort. I believe I was on perhaps a lower dose of Entocort when Connie discussed it on this board. I'm taking Connie's dose and was taking Connie's dose on Entocort. Typically I try to take it after workout which is when the weight lifters take it for "recovery." Then I take it 2 other random times a day when I remember. Brandy.
