He credits a new device from Shoreview-based Torax Medical Inc., a company whose early backers included the Mayo Clinic. The device is made up of tiny magnetic beads that form a ring around the muscle that maintains a barrier between the stomach and the esophagus. The titanium beads provide the muscle with more support, loosening up when patients swallow, then tightening to contain acids to the stomach.
