More benefits of coconut oil!
I am a coconut oil junkie now. I use it on my face and body, on my kids, as a hair conditioning treatment, for sauteing, etc. It is also the most effective moisturizer for cooling off my itchy, autoimmune skin rash...I wonder if it may keep bacteria on my skin at bay that my body is reacting to?
You may have read about its use for alzheimers and dementia patients -- they eat 3 spoonfuls a day and can reverse their symptoms. Simply amazing.
Now its been verified to battle strep mutans - the bacteria that causes tooth decay. It may also fight yeast and pathogenic bacteria in the GI tract.
Has anyone here ever tried a sustained daily dose of coconut oil to treat their MC? Did they notice a difference? I have a hard time eating it by the spoonful, but I'm wodering if it would be worth it. Maybe I should add raw honey? I tried adding some to my green smoothie, but it was all clumpy in the cold drink. Yuck.

Zizzle - are you still doing the oil pulling??? It sounds like coconut oil would be ideal for that. I can't seem to get into a routine with it, but after reading that article, I'm going to give it another whirl.

Thank you Zizzle about the coconut oil post. When, I looked at the saturated fat levels it was extremely high, but you only take it by the tablespoon and it can be easily fit into my diet. The reason why it was clumpy in your smoothie is the temperature it converts from a solid to a liquid. I have noticed a difference using extra virgin olive oil with my meals and I will try the coconut oil and flour in my baking. I wonder if it will help the people with the nail fungus. Jon

I stopped oil pulling too. I really have to start again, given what I'm reading these days about oral health and virtually every human illness. Bad bacteria have a tendency to hide in root canals and other places and can really wreak havoc in the bloodstream. Luckily my teeth are in good shape so far, and I need to keep it that way.

Paula - you can read about it at the above web site. If you decide to try it, be careful not to swallow the oil.
Love,
Kari

coconut oi
Hey everyone,
Z. thanks for the great article.
Here's my experience with coconut oil (started more than a year ago):
It did great on a toe fungus that drove me up the wall for 3 years---it practically ate it in a few days.
I use it on my hair after I wash it. I have lots of hair and it keeps it soft and shiny.
I use it on my feet, does great on the heels.
On my face, it was a bust. I started breaking out within few days. I think lauric acid is too harsh for my face. Well, since it can eat fungus, it stands to reason that it'll eat my face as well ;-)
I cooked with it but didn't like that everything had a coconut taste, I felt like I was eating at Bahama Breeze all the time...I prefer olive oil for cooking, unless of course you're serving and Caribbean island dinner.
I haven't been brave enough to just drink it and see what'll do to my colitis. I may try it sometimes AFTER somebody else decides to become their own guinea pig (I've been too sick to take any chances on anything)...
Anyone out there who wants to try it on their MC and see what it does?

Diagnosed 2011 with LC. Currently on Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)
Zizzle, I have tried a regular dose of it in coffee etc and just can't tolerate it (though I can do the Carlson fish oil straight up- go figure!). I am trying to cook with it more though. I also use it exclusively on my face and hands and love it. I did buy some cold-pressed oil just to have some that doesn't taste like coconut but I'm not sure if it's as beneficial. It's kind of funny....my Grandma was an excellent cook. Every year she made us some homemade caramel corn for Halloween and used coconut oil to pop the corn. Then the big scare came out about the dangers of saturated fats so I was scared to use it. Now I'm using coconut oil and making caramel corn for my kids and grands. The circle has been completed!
Jon,
I started oil pulling with good intentions a couple of times, but did not manage to make a routine out of it. I did notice that my mouth felt very fresh after doing it.
