It's been a while...

Since I have had a bad accident while out. I am SO glad I wear long, thick pads, and have extras with me. Habit formed a year ago.

I am supposed to go to travel to England and Israel in 3 weeks, and I am terrified!

Lesley, you've been doing better....don't stress yourself out. We all know where that goes! Just keep remembering how good it will be to see your family again. Hugs, Deb

Thanks Deb.
I am working on being well enough to undertake such a long flight. Being as sick as this on the plane is a nightmarish thought.

I keep going back and reading travel stories to encourage myself!

Lesley,
When I travelled to Hawaii on a 12-hour flight, I was relieved to see that the bathroom was right by my seat. If you're flaring when you board the flight, perhaps you can tell the flight attendant that you need a bathroom dedicated to your use, hopefully nearby. There are usually plenty of bathrooms on the intercontinental flights. Otherwise, they'll have to deal with your used diapers. I have taken Imodium as precaution when I fly, though I know you're reluctant to use it.

Have you figured out what food you'll bring on the flight? That was a bigger concern for me.

Good luck - no matter what happens, you'll arrive in your final destination safe and sound with your family. I hope you have a great time visiting them.

Gloria

I've been thinking about it. Meat muffins, some other sliced meat, cold potatoes, potato chips, a couple of paleo muffins. That will have to do it. When I am in in England and in Israel I will have to be making do there too.
I am used to meeting my friends in cafes, having lunch with them etc. So much of socializing revolves around food when I am away.

I am taking inspiration from you Gloria.

Jenny, I move from D <->C all the time. If I take immodium I will be so clogged I won't go for the whole time I am there. I am always trying to balance between the 2.

Hi Leslie,

I hope things go well on your trip and you have a lovely time. Last time I traveled I went on Entocort just for the trip & all went fine. I know what you mean about Immodium plugging you up. It does that to me also and then I end up cramping and trying to push the plug out. We do perform a balancing act. Wish I could visit England again. Lucky you!

Lesley, I hope that your flight goes well, and that the airline gives you all the consideration you need and deserve.

On my trip to Thailand in May (longest leg was about 13 hours) I found that my worry before leaving was actually more stressful than the trip. I did take Imodium, and I also don't have as many issues to deal with as you (I have only D, and far fewer food to avoid), but I hope that you find it the same--that once you get going it isn't as bad as you feared.

Have a wonderful time in England and Israel, and hug those grandkids tight!

Love,
Martha

Leslie
I am going to South America in mid-November. In a burst of bravado I agreed to go visit friends in Santiago, Chile for a couple of days and then go on a 2 week tour through Chile, Argentina and Brazil. I have been reading carefully to see what you are taking on your trip. I figure 5 pounds of my allowable luggage will be food and ill take enough Immodium to last a month.

Even though I have assurances from the tour company that they can accommodate my food sensitivities, and I have heard that these countries are very "meat and potato" countries, I want to take bars and dried fruit? I would love some suggestions for food that can live in my suitcase for a week or 2. Perishables are fine for the plane ride over but then what?

Anyone have any ideas?

Well, I have had to postpone my trip. I have to be in WA for an IME (why is beyond me!) at the end of November, so I have moved it to the beginning of December. I hope I am better by then.

Christine - I was told I can take double the liquid allowance because of my dx. I was planning to take some of the following: paleo muffins, (good for taking on a trip because the last quite well) meat muffins, maybe slices of beef or lamb, potato chips. There isn't much else I can take safely. That will have to do me.
The trip back worries me more. I am on the airport in between the flights for 2/12 hours. A 5 hour flight Tel Aviv -> London, and then 11.5 from London -> LA with the 2.5 in between. I hope I will be able to get organized for that one.
If memory serves you have more you can eat than I can? There is a lot of information in this forum about taking food for travel, as many members have done so.

Martha, thanks for your reassurance. I really appreciate it.
How is little Abigail? Been meaning to ask you.

Thanks. Sorry you had to postpone but maybe it will give you a little time to feel good. I can tolerate most everything except the big 4. The muffins are a good idea. I have a freezer full. I'll check everyone's travel posts. Good idea.

What is WA for an IME?

Post by Stanz »

Oh, it's hard to figure out all the acronyms here, Lesley and I've Googled it. I'm guessing you mean WA., DC, but if you mean WA State, for an Independent Medical Exam, you better come and stay w/me, sister.
Resolved MC symptoms successfully w/L-Glutamine, Probiotics and Vitamins, GF since 8/'09. DX w/MC 10/'09.

It is WA state for an Independent Medical exam.
I am going for one night only. I can't do more than that. I am leaving right after. I'll let you know where I am staying and you could come there to stay in the hotel with me so we can meet? How about it?
