Granddaughter Abigail is now 15 months old. (For the newbies, Abby was born with Down syndrome, and has dsyphagia, so she is not able to swallow well.) She is pulling herself up to a standing position now and can stand okay as long as she is holding onto something. She started crawling at 10 months, and can really get around the house that way.
She is still on a G-tube for feedings, but is getting better at oral feedings. She can eat some baby food, drinks a bit of thickened milk through a straw, and likes yogurt melts. She still has trouble with reflux, though, so they have to be careful of how much they give her and how fast. The speech therapist thinks we may be dealing with oral aversion, her not wanting to swallow rather than being physically unable to. That makes sense, if she was aspirating milk into her lungs right from the start--that would hurt! They are having trouble finding formula that her system tolerates, though. DIL pumped milk for a year, but her supply dwindled, and they have to supplement. Fortunately, they are able to get some breast milk from donors, and mix that with one of the few formulas that doesn't make Abby throw up.
She's a real sweetie, and brightens all our days with her big grins. No words yet, but she does babble some. She can very deliberately make the "b" sound.
