Generic Imodium vs Brand name. A clue to the flare.

Post by Camie »

Thanks for enlightening me! In a previous post two wonderful people pointed out that the generic equivalent of Imodium may have fillers that may cause a reaction. I always buy the house brand. I threw out the box of the Walmart Imodium substitute so I was unable to check the ingredients as they are not listed on the bottle.

I bought brand name Imoduim. I read and reread the package just to be sure it was lactose and gluten free. In reading the package I see that Imoduim is to be taken one hour before meals or two hours after meals. It is to be taken on an empty stomach. That is not listed on the Walmart bottle. I am going to check the package this week and also of the two other generic brands that I have purchased. That may be anothe clue to the flare. I was taking Imoduim substitute with meals. How stupid1

Things have settled down.........Thursday of last week i was taking five generic Imodium plus endocort. Today still on endocort and just two real Imoduim..

Still gluten free.

So glad to hear things have settled down for you. I was enlightened in regards to the inactive ingredients as well. I just threw out my kroger brand Loperamide...even though it worked great for me. Will buy brand from now on. I also didn't realize it needed to be taken on an empty stomach. So you've enlightened me today!

Congrats on staying gluten free! It can be hard at first. I now celebrate each month that I've been gluten-free by posting on facebook and I get a lot of "Way to Go's", "You're awesome!".....lots of encouragement and it definitely helps. I have it marked on my calendar "Gluten free since July 1". And I've been dairy free since August 24th....yay!!

Sending good vibes your way!

Camie,

You've made terrific progress! FWIW, I take 1/2 Imodium and 6 mg Entocort with breakfast. It works for me using that schedule. Now, if I can just get the Claritin timed right so these itchy bumps would completely go away....
